I'm in need of a charger and don't want to wait 3 days to get it. Is there any places where I might be able to walk in and buy one?
Picked up one of these open box for $1300, felt like a steal even though the charger will cost roughly $120. Crossed my name off the G73jh list!

I wouldn't recommend an aftermarket charger. Best bet is to call Dell Sales. Ask them for a discount. Doesn't hurt to ask.

You may ruin your steal with that idea.

Never wanted anything, but an official charger. Just wanted to know if there were any retailers that might be known to stock Dell laptop chargers.

Unless your location has a Dell Kiosk in a shopping mall, most of those in the US are gone now I believe, I doubt you'll find it at a local brick and mortar shop.
Internet or over the phone -
Would you keep the M17x I just bought (stuttering issues, q9000 vs i7 being my main reasons for worrying) or should i go down a different path such as the G73jh-A2 or I've even been looking at the Qosmio X505-Q870 with an i7 and GTS 360.
I want a big screen, high res and decent gaming. I do a little video encoding as well. -
That’s really a tough one -
Honestly, IMO of course, it really is your decision and your decision alone to make. Only you know what you want from a system and what you are willing to deal with (in terms of stuttering issues if you are seeing them presently on the M17x).
What I suggest, aside from doing all of the normal research on the other models, take a look at the relevant owner threads, reviews, videos and if possible, hands-on.
As for the core2duo vs. i7 (or, R1 vs. R2) - the choice is simple. Return it and purchase an R2. Of course it will take more $$ but IMO it’s worth it. Whenever a refresh is released, if the purchase coincides with the refresh and the budget allows - always go with the refresh over the earlier model.
Hope this helps. -
Simple question...which do you think is a better deal, for someone who might upgrade in 12 to 18 months? The M17x I linked or the G73JH-A2 (I'll never use the BR). -
Not return for the R2 - return for your money back (if you can). You are correct though, it was a great deal and if the budget does not allow, I would think you did fine.
G73JH-A2 vs the M17x - I have no idea. Never have looked at it before.
Again, this all comes down to a line by line comparison. Components vs Components and what you prefer/will use the system for.
Sorry I can't give you a straight answer to your question. I am just of the opinion that everyone should decide for themselves which system suits their needs the best. What one person likes another may not. What one person believes are the best specs for a gaming laptop are not always the best specs for the next. It just depends on individual use and preference.

edit: I thought it was a good deal and my budget is about 1500 but as long as buying a m17x now is a stupid idea i'm ok with it. reading all the stuttering threads have me kind of worried. -
rquinn - one thing I forgot to add to my first thought - sorry. Not return for the R2 - return for your money back (if you can) so you can purchase an R2 directly from Dell. Again, only if you can absorbthe cost difference.
As to the stuttering threads - some have it, some dont. I am one of the few who do not see it or have issues. The R2 has its own issues. May be a specific config. More on this can be found in the R2 Owner's Lounge.
Sorry for the confusion there.
EDIT: and as silly posted below, yes - as you initially thought, it is a great price for what you have. Depending on your return window, you could always pick up and adapter, mess with the system and if you dont like it, return both. -

Q9000 and GTX 260 SLI for $1,400? Keep it unless you are ridiculous rich.
If the screen is 1200p + regular warranty then KEEP IT!!! -
$1400 for an R1 with 260SLI!
I payed $3217,38 for that config 7 months ago!
If you want you could even upgrade your CPU with a QX9300 and game for the next few years perfectly!
As for the stuttering, I never had it with my rig... (I don't have it any more got stolen) But I was very happy with it, so don't worry, be happy!
Any stores to buy a replacement charger locally?
