aye, the M11 would not be good for long term use as primary with the tiny screen and tiny keyboard

It might be easier to first consider what uses you want with the machine, the m11x would be ideal if your constantly on the move and need to use it mobile which could include lectures/college work since its not only lighter and easier to move around without having it cause strain to your shoulder/back from having to carry it but as mentioned can have a lasting battery compared to other models without the need for having to charge it while on campus/etc.

Thou if this is more for playing games while having that mobility then the M15X should be ideal, while the m11x is capable of playing games the M15X would support them better that along with the larger screen/keyboard.

Heh I've been killing myself over this debate too. Started off going with M11x, then canceled and got an Asus G73JH, then ordered an M11x to go along with it, now decided I'm gonna sell the Asus and go with the M15x. M11x was too far along production to cancel, so I'm gonna test it out to see if it suits my purposes, but most likely its going back as well.

Everything except travel and fit in a backpack... ;)

All depends on how much traveling your doing. Personally I wouldn't want it to be my primary computer, but it's nice to travel with and do work or game on the go without being tied down by a big heavy computer/power brick

Might wanna check out your big chain PC stores, went into one the other day and fiddled around with the m11x they had on display, it was that instance which probably made it certain this was the one I was going to purchase.

I ended up going with the M15x after much debate. The M11x looks like a decent computer for regular use and gaming but for raw processing power (i7) the M15x seemed like the logical choice and I wasn't in need of anything bigger then 16" I haven't gotten mine yet so....

I would go for the m15 myself, if it wasn't for the RGB screen of the m17x

To me a laptop is meant to be small and portable otherwise what’s the point. I have had 14"+ laptops in the past and will never go back to one. The m11x is more powerful then any system under 15" when you consider what graphics card it has. If I want to do video editing I use my desktop. I have no issue with the 1.73Ghz processor in the m11x (SU7300 OCed).

I have my M15x on order, decided on it for much the same reasons you did. I also ordered the alienware orion messenger bag instead of a backpack ( i really only use the bag a couple times a year for vacations etc) I am completely satisfied with the quality of the bag. I assume the backpack is equal in quality.

Check ebay/amazon/buy.com for the bags. you can save 30-40 bucks

I also completely agree. m15x and m17x are pretty good but aren't really that portable -- m15x has around 5kgs. Add to that whatever else you want to carry in a bag and it can get pretty heavy. I was thinking of replacing my desktop with m15x since I'd like to have something bigger when I'm on an extended travel home, and it's much easier to move it around.

However, I'd say if you only go on extended trips and want to have a laptop with you (which you won't be carrying in a bag all the time), then it would make sense to get m15x or m17x.

I was in the same boat for a few months...a few long, tedious, droll, months. Ordered my M11x the other day with the realization:
Hey! I'm going to need something portable for college soon, I want Alienware looks, and be able to kill time in boring car trips to canada and flights to europe. If I need a powerhouse I'll just upgrade my desktop. Whats the point in having a laptop if it's not very portable and sits at home?

Get the M15x if you need a full fledged notebook. If you need something portable with decent gaming power, get the M11x.
