On other forums and websites, I've seen many Alienware, detractors, whine and cry about how heavy the m17x is. I've seen Alienware enthusists apologize for this, stating it is meant as a desktop replacement. Even my peers here comment on the weight.

It doesn't bother me a bit. Yes, my m17x, with accessories, and other stuff I put in the case weighs about 25lbs, yes I carry it aroundwith me everyday (except now, since my brick is dead lol). No, it doesn't bother me a bit.

Anyone else here think the weight is a non-issue or is this just another point proving I am weird?

Erm, I'm not sure about the M17x but I've got no problem with my M17. I can take it around with a load of heavy schoolbooks too and equipment without problem, although I should have got the backpack instead of the messenger bag.

Considering the M17x is just a couple of lbs more, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I'm 5'5", 130lbs, and I take mine to and from work everyday. I also carry a Dell Mini 9 with me as well. Those who complain about the weight are just looking for something to complain about. The only time weight might be a real issue, is if you had to set it on your lap to use it, and by the time you felt the effects of the weight, you'd be frying your lap from the heat anyway.

Yes, it's weighty allright! But you should have concidered that when buying. I personally think it's to be carried around in a backpack anything else would be plain stupid.
But on the bright side all the geeks develop muscles this way! :)

Anyone who finds the weight crushing on their laps are really weak. I use my M17 on my lap for hours at a time without problem.

Well, except when I'm wearing shorts that are particularly short. Then the machine slowly cooks my knee, but I don't care.

Actually, laptops are becoming a lot thinner and lighter these days, so it's unusual to hear people think somethings wrong when they found out how heavy the M17x is. So in fact, it's all relative.

However, they should compare the M17x with other machines that offer is long list of capabilities then it's weigh wouldn't be such an issue. Fortunately, people who compare it with everyday run-of-the-mill computers can't really appreciate what it can do anyway.

for me i don't care about weight as long as it deliever the performance.

it's not a performance/weight ratio for me. the weight is the last thing i am worried about.
size is a different thing. i think 17" would be the limit for my. i would like to try 18.5 but that sounds like a killer.

i can talk because i have carried an ocz whitebook about 13lb and the sager np9262 which is about 15lb.

i also carried a toshiba which feels like 5. a hp dv9640us which was about 8 and an acer 3680 which is about 1(lol maybe really 2-3lb)

If bought as a desktop replacement, the weight is to be expected... if the people complaining about the weight are traveling a lot (security checks at airports), are out and about all day on-campus, etc, then they bought the wrong laptop.

I think the real question is:

"Would you be willing to setup and tear down your m17x six to ten times a day?"

I can see in a college environment where I would rather have a netbook or ultraportable laptop or even a notepad than to setup and tear down my laptop for each class I had including going to the library or setting up afterwards in a dorm.

Setting up and tearing down for work then repeating again at home is okay on a daily basis, but add classes to that, books, etc, and it get's a bit cumbersome. Wieght be damned, it's just a lot of additional repeatitive work.

Same height and weight as you, I got this for school :D.

I don't really care, sure you can go get another laptop that is 3lbs lighter but for what? 3 pounds is nothing and for the power you get, I'd rather have my m17x over a netbook. I just can't stand slow computers.

I am tired of all the people complaining with the weight of the M17X. I am a skinny guy and I absolutely don't care about carrying this amazing PC with me.

People saying it's too heavy are just clueless.

Do they realize they can play almost all if not all latest games at highest resolutions and with most filters to the max. Do they realize a desktop with this power would weight three times as much???

This is getting ridiculous... Those complaining and there are so many should just get a macbookair and start playing the original version of Tetris.

Just carrying around my M17x with it's powerbrick, mouse and miscellaneous external drives and such is a breeze. Heck I usually put both my M17x and m15x in one bag and my school books in a second one.

Two weeks ago we had a heat wave here in the Pacific Northwest. The temps were over 100 for 4 days and in the 90's for two weeks. Now that may not seem like much to most of you but 90% of our houses do not have air conditioning. I tell you this so you will understand why I went to the air conditined library everyday with both my laptops and accessories. Now that was allot ot carry but te M17x by itself is a breeze.

I recently sold my huge (19 inch screen) mALX laptop. It weghed over 20lbs with it's power brick, yet I still took it with me everywhere. Like a guy said earlier my laptops are my sidekicks, I do not need extra security protection like lojack because they never leave my side even when I sleep, though that does concern the wife a bit...

Portability is just not a factor for me with laptops, if it fits in a backpack (and I mean a REAL backpack, not some skimpy stylish thing that is useless) than it is portable. If I can hike 80 miles in the mountains I can carry a dam laptop....(boy scouts was fun :) )

that heat wave plus driving from portland to grand ronde 5 days a week..not fun

but then again Pacific northwest, perfect hiking everywhere. those bags usually weigh more then laptop on your back so this machine will be nothing to me once i get it.

Indeed that is why many of us bought these beasts. I am just amazed at how well Far Cry 2 plays, at 1920 x 1200, with all settings high (expect anti-aliasing - at 1920x1200 I don't see the need for it lol). Where I'm at not much else to do, besides working out (guess that's why I can carry it with ease).

I was a little suprised on how heavy iy was. so is everyone who picks it up. but I don't mind it now. I only worry about dropping it when taking it out of the sleave since its kinda slippery. using it on tummy does feel weird at first, but I got used to it. plus the heat is .... yeah... I now use a table only.

It's a lot easier then dragging my desktop, monitor, and speakers to my friends house if I'm staying there for a few days. Bringing a laptop and power supply in a backpack if a lot faster then making multiple trips out to a car to drag parts out

Not a problem at all, I've always had to scratch my head a bit whenever people talked about it. Like someone else said, the repetetive set-up-tear-down, set-up-tear-down is far worse for me than lugging it around.

I absolutely love my M17x but I am lazy.

So when I travel I put it in a Samsonite messenger bag with wheels. It weight nothing and the opening is made easy for the Security check. You won't see a difference with a lighter notebook.

When you put this puppy in a backpack it s a different story.

I know that everybody is doing Amercian football, karate and has super power
but I don't :p. And anyway it does make me look like a super nerd, I dont like that. Also the laptop is fragile, let s face it, it's a beauty made of aluminium and a scratch coming from careless student neighbor is a possibility.

It's the most powerful notebook when plugged on the wall. When unplugged it has similar performance with a Mac Book pro.

I also hate netbook, so I have a Panasonic R8. It weight 700 grms but it can resist a drop and a weight of 100 kilos it s also waterproof if you throw coffee on the keyboard. It has a Centrino 2 processor, 4 gigas, and a GMA 4500.

I am not saying M17x cannot be carried around for taking notes, but except if you plan to game in your school I don t see the point.

Can I walk hours along with my Panasonic without noticing it? Yes, can I do the same thing with M17x? No, and even if you look like Schwarzy in his young years I bet you will be noticing it (and let s not forget the dimension which are quite annoying when you walk through a crowded area).

It is as funny to see a netbook owner try to play recent games than a M17x owner making a setup at starbucks to check his emails.

Why do you need to choose a side? Enjoy the best of both worlds :).
