Hi everyone, I recently installed bios A03 and thought everything is working great until today I try to boot my m17x and it will start up to windows but weird things will happen:

    1. the wireless doesn't connect automatically ocassionally, but right now it can never connect to my home router

    2. it froze straight after logging into windows and I had to hold the power button to shut down

    3. the screen will go black for a second, when I press keys on the keyboard the computer hasn't froze yet but makes the windows error "ding" sound, then if I hold ctrl - alt - delete the screen will flicker to a blue-ish screen. Nothing happens at this point and then I have to hold the power button again which will cause the flickering screen to fade... then once I release and hold the power button one more time the laptop will shut down after a few seconds.

What is wrong with my m17x? Is it a BIOS issue or a GPU issue? Any help is appreciate, thanks

the fans do not ramp up as quickly in A03, but it should be ok

and frankly, if something does burn up, that is what warranties are for....

i reset everything to default and tried to boot into windows, it froze right after playing the login sound. This is starting to worry me now...

blue theme? I'm not sure I just installed windows 7 home premium 64 bit and did not change the theme at all.

To make the wireless work normally you need to install the nforce drivers and then ->device manager->network adapters->(choose your wireless device)->properties->advanced->put "device sleep on idle" to "disabled".

Okay I am 99% sure that my GPU is defective. I reflashed back to A02 and it still crashes when booting with the GTX 260M. Then I went back into BIOS and turned off hybrid graphics and turned on integrated graphics. Now I'm running the laptop on the 9400m and it hasn't crashed since. But unfortunately my brightness control on the touch strip isn't working, but every other FN control works, which is pretty weird. Ah the problems I have with my m17x never ends :(

    What

For the wireless connectivity issue follow Aikimox's solution. It helps.

For the defective GPU, try to do the following:

    Boot in Windows with 9400M.

Uninstall GFX driver then use CCleaner to clean registry.

    Download 186.82 driver on Dell.

Reboot and re-enable Hybrid SLI and boot into Windows (If you can boot into Windows then your GPU is not defective)

    Install 186.82.

If your GPU is not defective I'm pretty sure this method will help.

Edit: And restore to stock clocks first.
