Anyone getting a solid OC out of an ES QX9300?

The reason I ask is because my ES X9100 has trouble from time to time at 3.33Ghz. Don't know if its the chip itself, or some other system instability.

im assuming ur using the OCZ .28 bios?, my E0 stepping qx9300 does 3.2ghz but not anything higher...try upping the FSB throught setfsb instead of just upping the multi through the bios....or vice versa....or a mix of the two

Yes, OCZ BIOS, sorry for not clarifying. I ordered a QX9300 yesterday. It's an ES, but the guy says it's extremely close to OEM. However, I thought that it went ES < QS < OEM. How do you know what 'stepping' you have? Are you running at 3.2Ghz daily, or just for benchmarking?

    Thanks for the info man.

use cpuz and it will tell you the stepping...im running 3.2ghz daily and it runs great.....im waiting for the new bios though because they need to sort out some power issues..gpus and the quad cpu suck too much power and give stuttering sometimes....the funny thing though is that it doesnt happen in games...only sometime in vista when opening windows or something...so its def not a problem......these chips can do 3.55ghz, we just need a new bios that will allow it..but 3ghz plus is more than you will need...and i guarentee u will hit 3.1ghz for sure....3.2 is the max right now for most chips

It was $575, but it's not OEM. The OEM chip goes for $888 last time I checked Ebay.

ES means "Engineering Sample". usually, these ES chips are less stable, not as good to overclock, and may fail faster.

Well, the chips are samples that Intel sends out. That's why they're so much cheaper. That's the short answer. Check Google for specifics.

Some folks say to avoid them at all costs, because they're not OEM. Others say that Intel would be hurting itself by sending out sh*tty samples, so there's no harm in getting one. I have an ES X9100 that never gives me any crap, so I had no opposition to getting the ES QX9300.

Still have the same problem with my setup when I install the QX9300 in my M17. Will this OCZ bios really solve this problem?
