I have searched hi and low for a bd slot load sata burner for the new alienware m17x and finally found one at a reasonable price. If you are interested he has another...Here is the auction

    Panasonic UJ-235A

    http://cgi.ebay.com/New-SATA-Blu-ra...trkparms=65:12|66:2|39:1|72:1234|293:1|294:50

These are VERY hard to find and usually 400-500 aftermarket. If you didn't get it when you configured grab it now. This is not my auction and I am not affilliated just trying to help someone else out. I grabbed one.

it is the only model available slot load and sata...you have to remove the bezel but yes it will fit! And, trust me its REALLY hard to find under 500 aftermarket been watching for a while. They didn't have this as an option when I purchased it or I would have added it. I picked one up...I will have to take some pics and post a write up of install. It looked more in-depth then the cpu upgrade...A few boards on top of the drive have to be removed. Nothing I can't handle though.

Ya, the one you pointed out I can get on ebay for under 100 bucks shipped and not refurb! I do tons of research and subcontract for IBM...I wouldn't point them in the wrong direction. Thats a bc-5600s...its the only slot load sata around without burner. The uj-235a is the only 12mm laptop with BURNER, sata interface and slot load.

I see. So you perform work for IBM as well? Maybe we'll run into each other one day.

    Thanks,
    Gabe

Well, I sub for them through another company part time...I do all the Best Buys on long island and some of the coach stores. Hardware upgrades pin pads, server, workstation and network upgrades etc... I do it mostly because a good friend of mine got me in and the 2 of us get to do the jobs ourselves. No boss, after hours and get paid GREAT for an upgrade or install. I can't tell you how many times we show up to do work there and the manager is like "no one is scheduled to be here?" we go home and get paid 4 hrs for nothing. Its not my full time gig but its fun, easy and pays well. And we always laugh at teh geek squad guys....Do you believe they are not allowed to touch ANYTHING on the network or any equiptment. They are contracted with ibm and not trusted. Always make me laugh when we go in.

Very interesting. I did quite a few workstations, servers, installs at the Best Buys in New Mexico. I've always wondered why geek squad never touched their own computers, servers, etc......but I never asked any questions either lol.

These are perfect...but can you guys find one with lightscribe? its been driving me nuts. I know that laptop slot load lightscribe exists...I just cant find a bluray burner with it >.<

You would do me a great service if you found one. Exactly like the ebay item, just with lightscribe functionality.

Hey guys... I'm looking at buying an M17x for school in a week or two. I found a great deal on one... <http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9383758&type=product&id=1218095797767> the only thing im not crazy about is it doesnt have the Blu-ray burner in it... so I was thinking to just buy one and put it in myself (still saving tons over ordering the same spec'd machine from Dell). The only drive I've found is <http://www.slidirect.com/Panasonic-Slim-Blu-ray-Writer-SATA-Slot-Load> but it costs $399! Can anyone find this drive anywhere cheaper?! Thanks!

You don't need a M17x for school; it's way overkill. There are dozens of other cheaper/lighter computers that can more than handle any of your school needs. On the other hand, if it's CAD or a video/photography school, the M17x would be just the ticket!
