    Hey everyone,
Alienware just barely got my lemon of a machine today, and now they're sending it back. Was that a lightning fast repair or what????? I'm now a little skeptical. I realise, being a Dell representative myself, that repairs can be done very promptly, but I firgured that there would be more in repair than just mine.

    Still remaining hopeful,
    Gabe

Depending on what the problem was, they might have been able to just fix it immediately.

especially with the m9750s, it seems lately they just...don't care. It's what 2 years old now almost? Perhaps it was something really stupid and simple that broke but this is a high tech gaming laptop so I doubt that.

they did a super fast repair for me too. They got my machine on a Thursday and then shipped it back on Friday. In that time they swapped the motherboard and CPU

I just wish that that repair would have happened.......oh...... maybe a year to two years down the line. But the machine is literally 14 days old. If I were the one repairing it, I would have installed the motherboard and two video cards. The plastics, LCD, processor, wireless card, and memory are fine.

It'll take an experienced tech less than a minute, maybe 2 or 3 if they take their time unscrewing it, to replace the motherboard and the CPU, it'll just depend how many other machines thy have to fix.

    Hi,
I'm not familiar with the amount of time it takes an Alienware laptop to be disassembled and then reassembled. However, I do know that the fastest time for a similar replacement in a Dell laptop can happen in no less than 15 minutes. The average technician takes 30 minutes for the motherboard (and all components on it) to be replaced. If the LCD screen is added to the picture, it usually extends the repair to an additional 15 to 30 minutes depending on complication and design. If plastics need to be replaced as well, it can easily add an additional 30 minutes.

    Gabe

P.S. - Keep in mind that when a Dell repair is made, no power tools are used. Every screw has a torque ratio and can easily strain or strip the plastics with a power tool.

My fear wouldn't be how fast they could replace a motherboard or videocard.. it would be whether or not they TESTED the system and at least did a burn in. Any application that can stress the CPU and GPUs for at least a 24 hour period (with no errors) would be great in my mind. To simply swap out the part and make sure it loads back up into windows is insufficient.

It's a double edged sword. Most people want their computers back ASAP, but doing the job right the first time and making sure you do it right the first time is just as important. I hear you about the burn in time. I always let a new computer I buy run for several days when I first get it.
