Ok, so I have a seven year old Area-51 which surprisingly lasted alot longer then the m9700 laptop I purchased two years ago.

Anyways, it was working fine until three days ago. It randomly shuts off completely without rebooting and such. No blue screen or anything. The only thing that happens is we'll boot up and it will say this on a black screen:

"Hardware monitor found error, check power management for more details." and then
"During the last boot up your system hung for an improper CPU setting, your system is not working in safe mode to optimize system performance and reliability make sure the CPU speed conforms the specifications of your CPU."

When I checked the Bios Setup to check the temperature and it was around 180F and the fan RPMs were at 0. So, I'm assuming it's dead. My question is if I were to buy a new one would I have to get the same one that's on there which I think it was a "coolmaster" or something?

And just to make sure the CPU fan is the fan that's directly attached to the motherboard?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah the processor is Intel Pentium 4 3.06ghz I thought that bit of info would help.

The fan is connected using a little power plug which connects onto the motherboard...

I don't think the m17 has the "area 51" designation....if you look on AW's site they refer the Area 51 m15x, the Area 51 M17x but the m17 is just the m17...I had wondered to myself why it wasn't called the Area 51 m17

in the past I had thought their pentium-based notebooks had the Area 51 moniker, while the AMD-based notebooks were called Aurora...

anybody know what the deal-io is?

The area-51 tag just means it has an intel chip as far as i can tell.
    Mine of course is a p4 prescott. Yours'd be a northwood if it's 3.06ghz.
Donno what that went into though.
