    Dears,

The DVD-Rom drive on my system takes all CDs/DVDs as blank writeables and is not reading anyone of them.

I have removed all the DVD Write softwares but still the same ..

    Any clues towards the solution

Time to contact Dell Support. Let them know the issues - if you have tried multiple brands of media (they will ask this) and request a replacement drive be dispatched. Shouldn't be an issue.

Wait - what laptop do you have? Is this the M17x All Powerful? If so, a replacement for another Dell system??

yeah - so its actually an "m17x". Big difference. Not sure how to advise on this one. Sorry. Changing title of thread so other Area-51 owners see it and possibly can advise.

Does the m17x use smartbay? If yes, then you can pretty much buy any slim dvd drive from ebay. Then you need to unscrew the smartbay casing from the old drive and attach it to your new drive.

Changing the optical drive is a lot easier than on current M17x's..
