Hi everyone,
Much to my disappointment, the replacment of the 8700 cards for my poor performance issue actually made it worse. Did I have texture tearing or distortion of graphics before??? No....But guess what??? I do now...... In fact, now every single game I play crashes......At first I was pretty upset, but now I'm just laughing at the whole situation. I spent about 2 hours going between 3 representatives as they desperately tried to resolve the issue. I must have opened the bottom panel 5 times....."remove the cards"..... "now try one card".... "now mix the cards"......"what driver are you running"...... Seriously, it's things like this that drive you to insanity. Remember the old "If you remove the heat sink more than 5 times, they should get replaced" statement?? I guess it didn't apply here......
After a while, I found myself saying "I just want to return it." After about 2 more representatives, it seemed like they finally heard me and told me to call into customer service the next morning. Sounds easy right?
I guess I was in denial about finally thinking the issue was going to resolve. Because I found myself arguing about returning the system to the customer service representative....... please make the pain stop. Oh... and guess what? There are no exceptions to the 15% restocking fee. No amount of arguing, crying, or transfers is going to save you from this. It doesn't matter if your system didn't work from day one. It doesn't matter if you tried to like the system, but it didn't like you back......
I paid about 2500 dollars for my system. I guess that isn't bad considering the fact that some payed 5 grand. However, what is bad is the 400 dollars they want me to pay for basicly renting the computer for 14 days......What's wrong here??? Maybe I would have felt a little better about it if I could maybe play a game for more than five minutes without lockup.......perhaps the 400 dollars would have been worth the 14 day gaming experience. But no.....I don't even that.....
Being that I didn't want to give up 400 dollars in restocking for a system that was obviously flawed from the start, and the fact that money doesn't grow on trees, I had to submit to repair. Now repairing is all well and fine. But we're talking about a 14 day old system that is now going to receive refurbished parts. Let me think about this..........Did I just pay for a used system????
Seriously in denial,
Gabe

Well, alienware-steve agreed to give me free restocking. The problem is, we won't ask for it. We will be sending it back WITH the $240 fee - ask to speak to managers and say that your computer has been defective, and has been sent back to no avail
-
Hey Gabe, I'm here to try to help you get around that 15% restocking fee since I agree that they should just accept the system back after they have failed the replacement.
Here is a few things that you could try:
1. If you paid on a credit card or I think a debit card, dispute the charges to make the restocking fee go away.
2. Ask for a critical issues agent.
3. Send me a PM with the info you want me to put in my letter to engadget & other sites. -
It doesn't have to be broken to be returned within 30 days.
And, it's BonziBUDDY. -
You could just call and say hello, i talked to steve and he told me i can return this computer without a restocking fee... Just a thought.
PS what on earth happened to my other post? :O -

yeah the 8700 is a pretty bad card, i try to tell people. and they always bring 3dmark results which dont matter ATM.

@Alienware/user - The problem here is that he already was issued a replacement card, which actually worsened his situation. Then after all of this he wasn't even allowed to return his system without the restocking fee. I think that if they tried and failed, he should be eligible.

ok, my dad called alienware and he got pissed because they kept telling him they could fix it and they couldn't understand english very well, but they said the cancellation deparpment could call back within 48 hours

You can file a complaint with the better business bereau (however that's spelled and file a complaint, but under no circumstances do you say you accept the restocking fee in any phone call to them as they'll use it against you. Make it clear that you do not accept it because system was basically broken from day one.
-
alienware DOES record every phone call I think. They tell you on the begining of a phone call. Be careful

Isn't there a no lemon law here in the us?
-
It must be, since I did end up getting credit towards a new system for my m5550 which wasn't fixed at all.
