So I'm getting this on the M17 listed in my sig. It's happens typically when I'm playing WoW. All the information I've googled on it is pointing to a bad video card, but the PC runs fine despite this error. I'm able to continue playing WoW, the only time I've ever noticed this coming up is in rare situations where I'll notice a slight latency in the game, then alt tab to see the error.
When I run in windowed mode I don't get this error.
Any suggestions?

I'd update my video drivers if I were you.

It's actually happened on both 9.1 and 8.12. The only one it appears to not happen on is 8.11, but then I get random shut downs with that machine.
Ironically enough, this message is happening on both M17's I've got in the house. My wife's laptop doesn't get much gaming usage so she doesn't see it as often. -

Try some community drivers like the tweakforce drivers:

woah yall both have m17 's? thats nice
if your fps are that good you dont have a bad gpu...
try E-wreckeds i use them in wow and dun have any proablems the 9.1 are a littile buggy -
1) A failing GPU may give inconsistent frame rates. On the other hand, it might not even have frameral issues and have other issues, such as dark spots, visual noise, and artifacting.
2) Bad VRAM will be fine until it hits that block, then something will crash - a video driver, an application loaded into that memory (likely a game), or even Windows.
Those drivers are probably the best you can get though, so I agree there. -
while i know what you were attempting to get across, i was also just having a bit of fun, to which you did not seem to comprehend either. -
I'm actually running E-wrecked's on both.
From all the Google reading I've been doing it appears this is a common thing with Vista and ATI cards. I noticed it didn't start popping up until about a week or so ago. I may just refresh the install of the drivers and see if that resolves it.
If not, I can always call Roswell -
my bad

Hey dude,
I had another weird issue while playing WoW and it took me quite some googling to find out what causes it.
My problem was that after logging in and entering the world the game randomly crashed and my computer hang.
Only solution was to reboot, i tried many different drivers but the only thing that fixed the crashing for me was disabling windowed mode in WoW and playing in fullscreen instead. Apparently this is a known issue with ATI cards.
If you are playing in Windowed mode by any chance, disable it and check again.
If not, let us know if you manage to solve it. -
I actually run in full screen mode, and have swapped to Windowed mode before. I had the same problem with random crashes in Windowed mode before as well, so I went just to full screen mode and away I went.
In any case, last night I ran for about 3 hours of solid gaming and no crashes or video driver problems. Tonight's plan is to really push the card and play about 6 hours of some intense games to see if it dies again. Then I'll toy with drivers, etc.
I'll keep everyone posted. -
You can pretty much call me a WoW addict.
Sometimes i play even more then 6 hours. On my old computer my game never crashed...on my M17 i randomly crash every now and then with the error;
ERROR #132 (0x85100084) Fatal Exception
Something about memory or w/e...i'm just hoping its something that Blizzard can fix.
Good luck with the test! -
are you playing via wireless?
-
I am actually playing over wireless.
-
try disabling the ID ping thingy...(forget what it is called right off)
the part that "announces" that it is availble...
grrrrrrr - this is going to keep me up for awhile now... -
I know what you're talking about...but I can't remember what it's called. That's a good idea though, I'll give that a shot tonight.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ran into any problems when I've been hard wired on this device....you might be on to something! -
I was actually playing over wireless...disabled it now since my ping was constantly over 400 :S...i plugged in my lan cable now...ill let you know if it keeps crashing.
