Hi,
I posted a while back about a rattling sound I'm experiencing with my m9750. It comes from the 10-key area, which I guess is around where the subwoofer is. I sent my computer back to Alienware to fix it, but it still seems to be there.
At this point, I'm just not sure if this is simply how all m9750's are or if it's just mine. If I could get other owners' input regarding this, I'd really appreciate it. I've linked to one video as an example where this problem is noticeable to me. I'd be grateful if you'd play it on yours and let me know if you hear ANY rattling/vibration sounds, particularly coming from the 10-key area (when I cover that area with my hand, the problem goes away). Please disregard the content of the video--it's just one I found where this issue is rather apparent.
Also, I have both the YouTube volume setting and my computer volume setting near the middle. Predictably, it's even more noticeable if I increase either of these.
TIA

Mine does it too if I have the volume turned all the way up. Just like with any car stereo, home stereo, or computer speakers- if you turn them all the way up they sounds like crap. It does come from the numberpad area- mainly the enter key as it seems to be loose.

I can't hear my subwoofer.. Is there a way for me to turn it on?
-
i too have this exact same problem!
i do not think anything is lose. i think it has something to do with a bad / faulty onboard audio system that requires a new motherboard since it is soldered on. i have tested this with headphones and even hooked it up to my 5.1 home theatre system through optical cable and the vibration-rattle-distortion thingy is still there!
at first i thought i had a bad subwoofer on the laptop. then i noticed the rattle comming from the left speaker as well, slightly.
i am dissapointed that tech support sent you the laptop un-repaired. i was sort of dreading this what they would do if send mine in.
when you sent the computer in what was their diagnosis and what work did they perform on it?
if you guys really want to test out if you have bad speakers just open up the sound manager (right click on the orange sound icon at lower right taskbar) and go into something called 3d audio demo. in there you can place a buzzing bee that makes a constant loud annoying buzzing sound to check if you get the rattling.
this rattling is not normal, i don't care what anyone would say. i cannot even watch a youtube video of someone talking or even listen to music without because of this rattle. also, the system has virtually no bass considering it has a subwoofer so i was very disapointed at how tinny the sound is compared to my sager (that does have a subwoofer). -
I have the M9750 as well. The subwoofer seems like crap that they put in it. Honestly, my sisters Dell E1420 sounds 100x better than my M9750. Strange isn't it?

Thank you for mentioning the audio demo. I didn't know about that. I notice the rattling when the bee is around the shoulder area of the model, both in front and in back. -
I ran the YouTube video you provided a link for and set the volumes to near maximum and I did not here any audible rattling on my m9750. I lightly touched the 10-key number pad while the video was playing and I felt a slight vibration but nothing audible. I do not have the 3d audio demo or it doesn't show on my Realtek HD Audio Manager so I couldn't test that one.
So this audible rattling sound you describe is not normal and AW should have fixed it. -
thats very dissapointing. i would send it back to them and specifically order them not to ship it back unless they can no longer duplicate this issue.
so much for they repair work... -
Thanks for the input. I'll send it back again.
(As a sidenote, they ask you to send the computer back with the box it originally came in and with the original packing materials if you still have it. I didn't mind doing that at all because it fits perfectly and is well supported. The problem is they don't send that back to you--the computer is returned in a plain old tiny cardboard box with a little foam inside. Besides the audio issue not being fixed, that kinda annoyed me.) -
I just got my m9750 yesterday and it does it too
Also sound quality on this is far worse than my inspiron 9300 (which had amazing sound for a laptop). Keep us updated on how it goes, interested to see if they can do something about the rattle -
well the rattle is not normal and they should fix it. they really need to figure out if the speakers are comming in defective from the manufacture and do something about it.

what is a good looking, 1600/1700 alternative for my m9750? 17 inch only. It needs a good graphics card and vista

when I play music at full, it's like a humming sound
If I play on full volume, and it vibrates a lot, does that cause ANY damage?
