August 5th

So the next AW network video appears August 5th. Now since I returned my m15x I've been looking for a new laptop but not had much luck. I have been to Best Buy, Circuit City, Costco,ect and none of the laptops seemed to interest me. The only thing that compares spec wise is the np8660 and IMO looks like something someone would get from walmart, except it costs close to 3k. Sorry about getting side tracked but I was thinking and do you guys think its possible that AW will release the black case for the M15x on Aug 5th? A newly revised case with better quality, like the m17x? If they do call me crazy but I may think about purchasing from them again

 

why not ? i am counting on a black case release too.but with aw you never know they might decide to release the case for the christmas holidays.....

That would make sense. If they were to release something out on August 5th, I'm pretty sure this is what they're going to add in their advertisement.

Daedric, wait for the Clevo to be released.
Then make up your mind... Wait for pictures, for people's reviews. Maybe it will turn out to be a big dissapointment... who knows.
Bottom line is, you know what you can count with AW. I'm sure if they have a black case, it will all be completely hyped, people will go on a rampage mode ("Oh look... they designed a completely new chassis that his mega sturdy and solves all the problems. AW is amazing!") and, for a couple of weeks, everyone will be blind by this marketing strategy...

Don't let yourself be fooled by appearences and exterior. Right now you have everything to your own advantage. You had the M15x (and that's what you can expect for... appart from a different colour) and you know a new (potentially) better laptop is coming out soon. Whatever you choice will be, wait to hear from what the clevo will bring to the computer world...

I'm sure AW will have to make an extra effort (appart from putting more lights) to keep in the game... We will see.

This is somewhat true. Who knows though, if they're coming out with a black chassis design, the design might be slightly different to overcome problems that have been happening in the past (ex. Heating issues, "poor" chassis build).

If I were Alienware, I'd put a lot of consideration into the material and the design of the m15x prior to releasing the black chassis. Using carbon fiber along with poking a few more holes for airflow might be nice. Who knows, the black m15x might be a huge success or a huge disappointment depending on how they will come to build the black m15x.

@edit: I do realize that if they do make a slightly different black m15x chassis, they'll probably have to implement it for the silver design(s) as well.

 

well if they do come out with a black m15x by this month im sure it will be at the Digital Life Convention. During the convention i can go try out the black m15x to see if they changed the build quality. I just got my free tickets so ill definitely be there opening day and all 4 days all day.

Since the m17x is black i find it kind of weird it has a silver alienhead. It seems kind of out of place. hope they make the alienhead black on the black m15x tho.

Don't worry Milcs I'll wait and see what AW has to offer on August 5th and I'll see what Clevo has to offer as well. I can't wait too long though school starts on August 25th for me

 

since you need it by 8/25 i dont think you will have time to wait until i can compare it since Digital Life doesnt start until 9/25

 

Will I think that's out then,lol. I think I might go with the M17x I have been hearing good things about it, will better than the m15x Hopefully AW releases something awesome on August 5th but I wouldn't hold my breath....

 

I hope its a black m15x, I really would like one for upcoming school year, I'll settle for the silver one but I hope they release black (and possibly make the case a bit stronger)

 

Mine starts on 8/25 too Daedric. Any chance you live in US - the Mid-West specifically ?
Though a lot of colleges must be starting at the same time.

i just came back from a little gaming convention in Australia called GO3.. alienware had a really big set up at the expo with tons of computers and afue m17x and m15x... they said to be about as clear as possible and after a long human convo not some PR repsonse.. m15x will never come out in black period. and they as staff even where talking about the disappointment of this and how they had seen the pics back in November last year... and how they hated the gloss on the m15x.

i seriously don't think its going to happen and im anoyed.. so yer im not longer remotely interested in the m15x.

the 9800 GT does look to run very cool all i hope now is that mac dont put it in the new macbook pro because im going to order before then and ill kill my self if that happens /emo

Heathkidd I totally agree with you man and I also have no interest in the m15x anymore. I was thinking about the m17x but now since the new gateway is coming out soon I see no reason on why I would go with AW. I mean I would be getting a GeForce 9800M-GTS, Montevina P8400 (2.26GHz), 4GB DDR3-1066 memory, 200GB 7200RPM hard drive with Gateway for $1,449. If I went with AW I would could get Dual 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 8700M GT, Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8300 2.4GHz (3MB Cache 800MHz FSB), 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SO-DIMM at 667MHz, 160GB 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection, the non-illuminated keyboard to be fair, and the cost... $3,173.00 without tax . Now correct me if I am wrong. Alienware is supposed to cost more I thought because of superior build quility and looks but why is it when I went to Best Buy and picked up and felt on the Gateway FX (8800gts) it felt SOOOO much more solid than my M15x, but more than half the price? It just doesn't make sense ! Btw I am in no way saying the M17x has bad build quality it's just damn expensive,lol.

 

My God. That has got to be the worst video Alienware has ever posted. We waited 2 months and this is what we get? No updates whatsoever. Stupid and useless Q&A. Nothing interesting at all except for the audio software that they are planning on releasing for their notebooks. When are they releasing it?

Yeah that video was a waste of my time. Looks like I won't be getting another AW and that's probably a good thing!

 

Daedric If you really don't like the look of the Np8660 you can always choose to get it painted with anything on it for an extra $500. Or if you don't wanna spend that much there is always the Skins. They are i think $89 and you can put whatever you want on them. (assuming you order from xoticpc)

I'm actually going to go with the Gateway 7811fx. It's cheap, has great specs, has great build quality (at least the one I played with at Best Buy did), looks pretty cool, and I can get a 3 year accidental warranty. Now regarding the np8660, I could get it painted but I start school August 25th. I simply don't have the time So it is the smart choice I think for me to just get it from Best Buy, if anything is wrong I just drive down the road and switch it out. Not like AW where I have to wait 2 weeks to get my laptop back with more problems it left with For all the people getting the np8660 I hope everything works out for you guys and your making a great choice but right now I think i'm going to settle for the Gateway 7811 FX
