I'm currently having multiple problems with my m9700.

1.) During game play my cpu is running at around 86-90c before it randomly shuts down the system. I have applied AS5 to the CPU/GPU's and have not seen a noticeable difference.

2.) While playing games such as fallout 3, wow, aion. I'm getting about 30fps sometimes less on low to medium graphic settings . Load times are also slow. I've tried them all with and without sli enabled. I even reformatted my computer in case there was a driver issue, no success.

3.) I'm not really into buying a brand new 2000-3000 dollar laptop and was wondering if I could replace the cpu to dual core. I read the m9750 motherboard might be compatible with the m9700 model where I can change out the cpu.

Personally I think a laptop like this shouldnt have problems running games that I listed. Suggestions and other cause of problems would be much appreciated, this is driving me nuts. Also I contacted alienware support, the representative really didn't give me any answers.

    Computer Spec:
    Processor: AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-44 2.40 GHz
    Memory (RAM): 2047MB
System type: 32-bit Operating system (windows vista ultimate)
Video Cards: Dual NVIDIA Geforce Go 7900 GS (x2) (dxdiag says approx total memory : 1005.

Any help would be appreciated this is extremely frustrating.

Sorry, the ML-44 is as good as it gets for the m9700. The m9750 is an Intel based machine, no swapping there. Your specs are as good as that machine got. The best you can do is if you find you have any bad parts, replace them with the same parts, if you can find them. The thing maxes at 2GB of RAM, DDR 1 at that. I gave up on mine and just got an m17. Not the answer you were looking for, but I found the m9700 to be a really weak gaming machine with Vista on it. Maybe you could downgrade it to XP, it runs much better with XP.

How much performance increase did you notice when you downgraded to windows xp? So I couldnt purchase a m9750 motherboard with a intel processor? Also how can I tell if a part is bad, especially the cpu or the video cards?

best processor is the ml-44 you cannot go any higher as thats the highest processor for the socket 754........nooo i remember now you can if you find one get to 2.6 its a mobile sempron (if you want send pm and ill try and find one again) edit http://cgi.ebay.com/AMD-Athlon-64-4...in_0?hash=item518c6a1a3b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

i think thats the one .... thats the best you can get.
    2gig ram max

and not too sure about graphics cards... but their ok id of thought for now ...its the ram thats causing problems. 64bit xp is your best option.

to see if anything was broken or not working id probably benchmark the system and find simular to see if the scores matched up.

    Hello,

Can anybody help I have an alienware aurora M9700 r1 which came with vista home premium ( which I hate won't run older games.) I asked alienware support what I needed to do to install Xp pro sp2 on a new hard drive. They said I need to change some bios settings and won't tell me what because I bought the system second hand. They said I could call dell presto to get help with the install but when I looked they want to charge me for thier help.
So I tried to install it anyway and seemed to work until I tried install the drivers eg chipset using installshield setup file. came up with error 6003
    telling me to:
    close any running programs
    empty temporary folder
    check internet connection.

I have never seen this before.
    any help much appreciated.

    Steve

ps sent a email to alienware pr and told them what I thought of their customer support.
