So three weeks ago I bought a new HDD for my M17, but I didn't have any additional screws to screw in the second HDD enclosure. So the guy from AW told me to use two from the other HDD and they would send me more screws right away. I thought wow this is another great experience from AW. two weeks later no screws so I call up, and they said it was weird and they would refresh the order, two weeks later still no screws so i call up again, they say the same thing. Anyway! today they came! I was happy because I wouldn't have to worry about the HDD's moving around and maybe breaking in the case.
But I should never have gotten my hopes up, because the minute I open the package and look at the contents my 8 screws were just 1 screw. So awesome, what am I supposed to do with 1 screw, now I need to find 3 more HDD screws.
So I'm done dealing with AW support on this issue. Can anyone tell me the dimensions of the screws they use for the HDD? I want to go to Home depot and pick up my own.

Go on ebay and look for a set of laptop screws.
I got some for my 1730 and they worked great (cost me like $8). -
Go to a hardware store. ;þ
-
Yea, but I would like to know the dimensions, it would make the whole situation much simpler.
-
Dude, measuring those tiny screws would be a ROYAL PITA!!
-
Take that one screw AW sent you to the hardware store, go up to a clerk, and tell him you need 3 more.
-
We will see I'm going to go do that right now, so wish me luck.
-
Home depot and most hardware stores won't have screws that small.
Do you have an old computer of any kind? A friend with an old PC?
An old electronic device you could remove screws from?
How about a computer repair shop? -
Home depot does not have the screws... so crap. As far as anyone I know having any nope. I could try fry's, you think they would have?

How friggin' hard is this: http://cgi.ebay.com/100-LAPTOP-SCRE...4|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:1|294:50

Sleey0 you are not very bright. How do i know the type of screw I need will be in there if I don't know the dimensions of the ones I currently have? hmm? to big and they won't fit, too small and it doesn't do me any good. You really need to stop posting in this thread.

Sorry, YOU are not very bright. Don't ask for help if you don't want people to come up with solutions...
I have opened up laptops from Dell, Sony, Clevo/AW, and Toshiba.
Every last one of them used the same small electronics screws. I am done trying to help.
Good luck at Fry's -
I will try fry's later today. I wish the AW tech reps could tell me the dimensions instead of offering to send me more
-
-
Just be sure to take a sample screw with you when you try to locate more.
Have you looked up computer repair in your area, if you've got a fry's then there must be a shop in the area. -
fry's is about 20 miles from me. I will try a computer repair shop, but I've never seen any around here so, so I'm not sure I will find one.
I would think fry's would have to have them, its a big store lol. -
The size should be M3x3.
-
I think you might be right, thank you kimot! + rep
-
Hmm.. I think I'll buy those scews as these are all standards and should fit pretty much any laptop.. especially hard drives. Thanks Sleey0.
-
NO PROBLEM, grey
I have every imaginable size of laptop screw at home - always good to have spares! -
radio shack...
best buy (geek guys)...
local PC shops...
i am sure you can think of more... -
-
yea they are standard i removed them form a old compaq
i just used 2
put the 1 in the back since it will be screwed in place the one in the back will keep it from sliding ..... -
Any Radio Shack or eletronics store (NOT Best Buy or any big box store and not one selling TVs or Stereos but tather the parts to build your own).
-
i ordered screws from alienware also, except they sent it to me free of charge and it came within the next week
-
-
-
Someone offers a suggestion and you call him a jerk. Sounds very familiar.... -
-
Is there a Micro-Center or Fries near you? They'd have them for sure.
-
I actually ordered some today since kimot said the screws were M3x3. So they will be here in a week or so.
-
i just told you
put the one in the back the front of the drive will be held by the connector
i have it that way
ALSO in the mean time take one of your sevice cover screws and use that -
Haha!! This thread is retarded... it's the equivalent of saying, "My average joe car is almost out of gas, and need to know where to go for a fill up."
If your screws don't come in the mail in a week, after paying for them plus shipping, then just go to any electronics store where they sell computers, and you will almost definitely be given some FREE screws. Just ask nicely. -
I'm a bit unhappy with them at the moment. My laptop has been 'shipped' for almost a week now with nothing in the way of emails or notifications from them about the shipping status/tracking number. So I phone today and they say I'll get it today or tomorrow but that they can't find the tracking number...Yeah. Right. I'll believe that if I do get my laptop tomorrow, which I reckon I won't.
-
... Or go to www.laptopscrews.com (Found this from Sleey0's ebay link)
A no-brainer really if you need laptop hard drive screws and then some (Panal Covers, heatsink screws, etc).
I have the same story as the OP in that Alienware shipped my ONE HD screw overnighted to me. I called them right back, elevetated to a manager, and told them the rediculous situation. The next week I got 16 screws, (I only asked for four).
Awesomely terrible disappointing day with AW
