I just noticed today...
There is a dead pixel on my screen, really on an annoying spot.
anyone knows what I should be doing?
Call alienware?
Or try to run some programs to get that removed?
-
-
Depending on where the pixel is, you can get the screen replaced.
http://4help.alienware.com/cgi-bin/alienware.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=678 -
Its on section 8.
Anyone got any advice I can be using? Like a software or something I can use to get rid of it? -
I dont think u can fix a dead pixel. A stuck pixel maybe fixable but i doubt it. Go to jscreenfix.com
good luck
is it just one pixel or is it more. Dell will only replace the screen if the dead pixel is in the middle of the screen. If off the middle 2 or more dead pixel is need for screen replacement. -
Well Its towards the buttom center. Its on on the right center of the screen.
Its very disappointing. -
Dead pixels are very evil things... They drive me insane.... I dont care whats on the screen, i always know its there and my eyes are mysteriously drawn to them...
If its bugging you that much(like it would me) i would call and tell them what ever it takes to get a new screen... The bad part of that is the next screen you get could have more , equal or none so its a crap shoot when getting the replacement...
Good Luck .. -
^^^^^ very true. I had the same problem, 2 dead pixel. They sent dell tech to replace it, end up scratching up my brand new laptop with his screwdriver. In the end the replacement was worst than original with at least 10 stuck pixels and 2 dead one. Now that sucks

Eew thats really bad Inappropriate. So you gonna get em to replace it again or what? And how about scratches on your laptop? I mean your resale value will be a lot lower right?
And I cant imagine how I would feel if someone leave scratches on my lappyI will kill this guy immediately
I always want my lappy looks new
Does a normal screen has a chance to get a dead pixel after a long time of normal use? -
I just feel like when paying 2800$ for a laptop I should be getting better service.
Better service.
I had this laptop for only 4 days now.
Man oh man. -

Easy man. You got a great deal and luck will stay with you. Next time you got a replacement for your screen it will magically be a RBG LED screen

If they won't, then Just return it. 21 days return policy, to be on a safe side. Now you are playing in their field. Customer satisfaction is key.
On a side note: I'm going to give Dell a call tommorrow morning on my issue that just arise. It's 's saying that " my laptop is not plugged in AC power and is going to be using integrated GFX" , when the AC plug is indeed plugged in. (This just happen yesterday) -
Yeah they are sending me a replacement unit. Hope no dead pixels. Hopefully i will get it this week. Just make sure your tech knows what he is doing. Ask him if he ever worked on one before, if not find another tech. My tech did something that totally fried my lappy. Lol
yeah silly i totally wanted to kick his butt, but too bad he was like 100 lb heavy than me and a good 6" taller. So i wimped out lol -
-
Don't forget I bought this from a seller in the NBR section.
So I don't know the 21 days policy applies to me also..
Can this also happen? The dead pixel goes away.
When I view a white screen the pixel is red.
Otherwise its black. -
SillyHoney Headphone Enthusiast
What da hell? Dead pixel cannot change its color right? or I miss something here
And yeah, maybe your 21 days is already expired so... -
Yeah if you bought it from a member then sadly its probably past the date unless they just bought it within the past 21 days but even transferring the warranty can take a few days etc.. So you may just want to call and see what they see .. Worst case they say no so you just hang up and call again till someone says yes
..
Stuck pixels can disappear on there own .. Dead pixels are just dead.. IE Black pixels which i can handle easier then the stuck colored ones... The stuck colored ones are what i was referring to actually and those are the real buggers.. -

2) Let the seller know that his unit that you just received 4 days only, has a dead pixel and see if he can compensate you for a discount price you purchased from him. He might have known about it but probably did not disclose(You can only see dead pixel when there is a solid background..depending what color it is).
3) Just becareful next time when you are buying an expensive laptop.(always asked if there are any dead pixel). a new screen can cost from $180.00 +
Edited: Is this where you bought it from? It has the price tag you mentioned $2800.00. It seems new and shows that it has warranty till 02/29/2012

If you did, read #8 about warranty. -
This was a brand new packed laptop, so the seller would not known that.
The seller received this as a replacement laptop from Alienware for his old XPS laptop.
This laptop was never opened except me.
I called their tech support, not much there they could do, they are sticking to their guns.
He told me to call customer care tomorrow to see if they can do anything, otherwise I will see what complete care does.
Otherwise I hope i get another dead pixel in the next few days so I can be eligible for a replacement? -
Once your ownership transfer is complete, the current coverage applies to you as you are the owner.
Apologies if this is not needed, I didnt review page 1 of the thread - here is the ownership transfer info @ dell.com.

An amazing system, just once you see that dead pixel, you just can't get your eyes off it.
No matter how hard you try. -
It's kind of ironic how those dell rules about pixel eplacement are made just so that the chances of them having to replace your screen are 10 times smaller than with a complete screen warranty. The irony is not that Dell has this policy, but that the buyers agree with it. Where are the good old days (if they ever existed) when you bought something, and it just worked? It's plain logic to receive a perfect working system, especialy when you payed like 2-3 k euros for it.
-
Yep, we are not talking about a cheapo laptop, but a premium grade laptop that cost me 2800...I thought they had a better warranty for this.
I am bot going to hold this up against the seller...I could contact him for a refund, but not sure if he is going with it. I just feel disappointed because I could have gotten a sager and pay 100$ for the 0 dead pixel policy...kicking myself alot right now. -
Isn't it possble to ask your mony back for the laptop within like 30 days if you are not satisfied? Try looking around in the dell site to find out, or just call them. If you are a child, ask your parent, a firm adult voice is way more theatening that a kids voice. Good luck.
I'm glad I didn't get a dell, I wanted to get one for their so called good service, but now I know they just ripp you off. I hope asus has dead pixel warranty -
I am 21 lol and bought it with my own money. I bought this from another guy on NBR market place as posted above.
-
No idea what bbt means, so.
Maybe theres a guide to make dead pixels? Like with a tazer rofl. But I wouldn't kill your screen before you'd know for sure that they will replace it when it has more dead pixels. -
Sorry, Edited the post.
We shall see what happens tomorrow, will keep you guys updated. -
Didn't you buy the system sealed in the box from the seller? If that's the case, he's not obligated to refund anything. If he's being generous that's one thing but I know I wouldn't. You have warranty, use it. -
Never said I would, I know he has nothing to do with it.
We shall see if the warranty guys will take care of this, most likely they will give me the same answer, sorry we won't help you with dead pixels, your out of luck.
Btw its not black on some screens, it seems to be red, I think.
But I can't see it when its either red/black/blue backgrounds. -
I'll PM ya on what you might be able to do since it's worked for me. -
Ah ok,
Will wait for your PM.
-
any luck with the stuck pixel?
-
For those of you saying that this is a bad policy, you're dead wrong. Alienware's Dead Pixel Policy is one of the best in the industry.
The average dead pixel warranty is 3 in a cluster or 8 on the screen. Far more than the 1 or 2 allowed by Alienware's policy. -
I expect a 0 dead pixel policy for a 3000$ laptop...but that's just me. No luck yet but I am at work, will call them when I get off
work. -
i think you have a stuck pixel instead of a dead one. did you try to go on jscreenfix.com yet? maybe you get lucky.
-
Pixel policy is cleraly stated on the website, why risk it if you knew you were expecting and tolerating 0 pixel defects?
-
I have tried the jscreen but everytime
I try to use thaty screen goes black.
Hopefully their consumer satisfaction might be able to do something about it. With the alienware comp you can't just simply tap or massage the screen because it's glass. -
its lexan actually. it will flex but i dont recommend trying.
i sent back 3 different machines last month , each with ONE bad pixel. you are correct, for that kind of $$ it shouldn't have defects. -
wow, 3 machines? My god, how long did it took you to get it back?
-
Ok, they said they will send an on side technician to come to my home and replace the LCD.
I told him that I just got this laptop 4 days ago, I didn't tell him I bought it from a seller, he said that the whole system is covered for a full year of the purchase and that they will take care of this and replace it.
!!!!!!!!
The guy is going to call me, schedule an appointment, come to my house and replace the screen, the guy will have the screen with him at the time of replacement.
Really good tech support.
Thank god!
Anyone got any advice on what programs I should be using to test for dead pixels once the screen gets replaced?
The representative said wow, you paid nearly 3k for the laptop? I understand your frustration and we will take care of that, he said " no matter if its a single dead pixel or a bulb that is not good" we will take care of it and replace it!" -
thats good to hear, make sure to ask for a tech that has worked on a M15x before. My tech mess mine up so be careful. try to find a guide on wow to take the screen apart, just incase. i think there is a program in your resource disk that can help you find problems with your screen. other wise if you don't see a dead pixel than don't look for it.lol
-
it was technically 4 screens between the 3.
i swapped it myself the first time as my tech had never done one and i already had it apart.
heres the software i used to locate them
http://udpix.free.fr/ -
Man it would suck if the tech guy didn't know how to replace this and messed up my whole system!
Oh god!
And I don't know the first thing on how to open up my laptop, well I do after watching Moo's video, but still I wouldn't be confident on showing the guy what to do lol.
If he messes up alienware has to send me a new one...and that will take another month...QQ. -
actually within a week you a get a replacement laptop. getting mine tomorrow.lol
-
Well I should at least try this first, worst case scenario I can tell Dell that the tech screwed up royally and that my whole laptop is garbage and get a replacement.
-
I hope this is not worse, I don't want him to scratch my whole system up, last thing I want is the glass getting all scratched up or dirt getting in it, I am they will have an easy way to replace the monitor no?
-
Or maybe I should just chose a Clevo/Kobalt or XXODD or BTO laptop? They do have a 0 dead pixel policy, which I definitly expect from a 2-3000 euro system. -
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/M15x/en/SM/sm_en.pdf -
Also, the technician which came to my place said that they were sent M15X to practice on, so he knew everything what we was doing and I was also looking over his shoulder to make sure he wont be scratching it. The new display which I received has no dead/stuck pixels. I dont know if its of importance, but I live in Switzerland and thus the technician might be a bit better (?) -
Guy called today, he wanted to come tomorrow but I told him I was not going to be home. He is coming on the 4th.
Also, are this people trustworthy that come to your home to repair anything?
Sorry for being paranoid.
Also he did say that he replaced prior alienware screens.
Awww Dead Pixel!
