Alright so I was doing my usual computer setup (creating separate partition for user data) and I had created a "My Documents" folder on my D:\ drive so I could put my music, photos, videos, other documents there like always. I just drag and dropped the Music/Pictures/documents/downloads folder from C:\users\Pat\ to D:\My Documents but when I did that it asked me to copy + replace a desktop.ini file...I wasn't sure why it did this so I just click OK and it did it. I only moved over the Music and Pictures folders.

Since Vista has those shortcuts in the start menu for "Documents" and "Music" and "Pictures" I had to redirect them to My Documents, my music and my pictures. When I did the one for "My Documents" it worked Ok, but when I right clicked the menu for "Music", and clicked properties, the window was blank, nothing was filled in like it should be. It's like I deleted the shortcut, but the icon is still there. I don't have any options that I can see to redirect/recreate the shortcut, and I can't delete it. So now every time I click either Music or Pictures in the start menu, nothing happens.

Is there anything I can do to get this back? I went to do a system restore but for some reason it was disabled on these partitions and after I enabled it, there were no restore points anyway. I'd really like to get this working again as I'm VERY VERY OCD about this type of stuff :/.

Try editing your registry to change your "Default" My Music folder like this:

Start --> Run then type "regedit" and hit enter. Once in the registry
    editor, pick HKEY_CURRENT_USER --> Software --> Microsoft --> Windows -->
Explorer --> Shell Folders, and edit the "My Music" to be your default music
folder (C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\My Music). Do the
same in "User Shell Folders" which is also under Explorer.& the issue should
    be resolved.

Just do the same with your My Pictures folder.

    Here's another method: http://www.edbott.com/weblog/?p=1371

    Thanks for the reply.

I think you might have misunderstood me. I know how to change the location of the folders, and make the shortcuts point to the new location. The problem is when I go to do that for "Music" and "Pictures" in the start menu, I right click the shortcut and select properties, and I should have a bunch of information there like the size, location date created etc etc. and a bunch of tabs at the top. This doesn't happen though, I end up with a blank window. I will upload a picture in a second to show you what I mean.

EDIT: Here is a picture of when I click properties for the "Music" shortcut in the start menu. The one on the left is for Music, the one on the right is the "My Documents" shortcut I have already redirected.

When I redirected the "My Documents" folder it asked me to move files over from the old location to the new one, and told me a desktop.ini file would be changed. Ever since then the Music and Pictures shortcuts stopped working. The My Documents one works fine.

I would just blow the profile and reset it up. Right click on my computer go to properties... then select the link to advanced system settings. then on that advanced tab click user profiles.
delete your user profile and reboot...
Then log in and let it rebuild your profile.

Now this will wipe out any settings for that user account and you will have to reset them up as you did the first time you logged in.

Basically you know how it is when you create a user account for the first time.. nothing is configured, no documents ect..

That is what happens when you wipe out the profile.. it is as that user did not exist on the machine before.. so custom settings > backgrounds, desktop ect...
