    Hey,

I have the 320GB Freefall HDD, and if I lightly chuck it up in the air (as in, just throw it about 1-2cm in the air to rea-rrange in my hands, it will beep at me.
I am guessing this is the laptop informing me the HDD is being locked into place. But isn't this bad for the HDD over time?

It also happens going down stairs (holidng the laptop firmly)

    Thanks :)

never heard that before, are you sure it's beeping sound and not something loose or similar ?

You do not mean your laptop or do you ?? do you throw your m15x in air ???? :p

To answer your question, I would speculate that the Freefall HDD locking up in place would not be bad for your HDD over time seeing as how it "immediate[ly] and quickly moves the read/write heads away from the platter to prevent them damaging data upon impact" [ 1] when it happens. In comparison to normal HDDs without the freefall feature, I'd say their lifespans are the same.

Erm, it's definately when it enters free-fall state when it beeps, never anyother time else.
And not really throw, just re-position the laptop, it goes in the air 1-2cm when im re-arranging it :p
