Its time for me to retire my M5790 and upgrade to the M17x.

Before i buy it, i have some questions and i need some verification.

Does the m17x overheat? i dont want to end up with another overheating laptop like my m5790.

How loud is it? My M5790 sounds like a jet engine spooling up, is it anything like that?

Ive read here that if one were to get the dual 4870's that it would be best to get a good cpu with it right? so would a T9600 be a good cpu with the 4870?

T9600, yes or no? why? Im trying to keep the price under 3k

Do the dual 4870's really have 145% graphics perfomance increase?

    4870's, yes or no? why?

Does Alienware update their gpu drivers etc.?? its been 5 years and Alienware has never updated anything on mine.

Is getting a different warranty other than the one that comes with it reccomended? if so which one?

Can i be confident that i can run almost any game i throw at it at the highest settings?

How future proof is teh M17x, can i be confident that i can be playing games on it 4 years from now, no problem?

If you had a choice to go back and buy your laptop again, would you? and/or what would ou do differently?

    Thanks

Wait another month. Then get the new refreshed M17X. The M17X has great cooling, but of course with all that hardwear your going to have fans, so expect the fans to be loud. But they do keep your GPUs and CPU cool so you don't have problems.

Yeah, definitely wait for the refresh if you can. It's around the corner.

I said "screw the refresh" and pulled the trigger. The laptop does not over heat AT ALL. Even without a cooling pad. Plays every game for long hours and even the battery doesn't get hot.

The refresh will be available to order by this month most likely and ship by early February. I'd hold off because the new one will likely feature an LED (possibly RGB LED) display, Intel's i7 + newest chipset that has no DPC latency issues. Basically it will be a better system all around.

I would agree with the above to wait. The only exception being that your current computer is dead or you MUST have it now.
I will add that I own a pretty much fully loaded m17x and am ecstatic with it. Most if not all games play at full resolution maxed out. Personally, I don't think you will be disappointed if you order now or wait.
Also, remember that if the new model is available lets say Feb 1st (just speculating of course!) it may be another month or so before the first one ships. So you may not have it in your hands until march? Can you wait that long? That's a question only you can answer....

Yup, no point spending this sort of money and regretting it a week after it arrives. WAIT

It is a very good gaming notebook - the new one will be even better.

Who knows, maybe the new refresh will have problems. I doubt it though, if that ever happened...well thats just sad on Dells part.

Either way if you wait/buy now you'll still get an amazing system.

In this business you never know what the next refresh will bring.
I say, wait a bit and see if the new system is really better before pulling the trigger. Also keep in mind the current config. If Dell fixes the stuttering and the new system has issues...
For now, - wait if you can.
