Anyone know of the best cooler for the m17x. Fan alignment is basically the most important factor so which cooler has the best fan alignment for the m17x? Oh and I'm not having overheating issues or anything I just figure lower temps can't hurt and coolers are relatively cheap and lower temps extend product life.

The fans aren't aligned perfectly but my SwissGear is working pretty well. It has expandable side wings so it fits my M1730 perfectly.

3.47ghz with complete stability. Same as your x9100 i see. Maybe I can get higher than that with a cooler, i'll let you all know once i get one.

Agree with MOO on this, I just got the Cryo this week and switched from the Zalman NC2000, the zalman is nice but the Cryo fits the M17X perfect!

I replaced my Zalman NC2000 with a Cryo as well, but I have to wait until my M17x arrives to tell you how much better it is, I just listened to Moo!

As stated in the other thread, the Zalman cooler is a well made, high quality cooler that runs well and is quiet, but the fans for the cooler are all located in the front. The Cryo fans line up with the fans of the M17x in the back, which makes it a much better fit for this laptop.

another vote for the cryo LX bein the best cooler, at the moment.

the nc1k/2k are known to be very silent. they will only beat the cryo LX in the noise and portability department. the cryo LX will be more noisy then the nc2k cuz the cryo LX uses (3) 120mm fans compared to (2) smaller fans in the nc2k. personal opinion, the cryo LX is very quiet to me. sometimes i have to physically check it with my hand cuz i can't even hear it.

the cryo LX was also designed and built for power/gaming notebooks in mind. it's coolin surface is perfect for any 17" - 19" laptop cuz of the vent placement on the laptops. it will also cool pretty much any 15.4" and lower cuz of how big it's coolin surface measures. u can also use the cryo LX on soft surfaces, with the front folded under. to me, there is no cooler that has pure CFM, cooling performance, and versatility all in 1 very solid package. my laptops internal fans never even turn on when it's on top of my cooler. they come on very rarely, only after hours of gaming.

I believe you are asking about the noise difference between the two coolers. The NC-2000 is significantly quieter and the airflow seems evenly distributed throughout the ventilation holes. The Cryo is much louder than the NC-2000 and seems to push more airflow, especially at the max setting. The Cryo concentrates airflow at the rear of the unit (where on the M17x needs it the most) but not so much at the front, which is fold-able.

I included two pics, the first is a side view of the cryo, you can see where everything is in the back, the front part of the unit folds up, but as far as cooling goes, the front doesn't do much.

The second pic is of the Zalman. Even though the fans are actually located in the back of the cooler, the vent holes are all located in the front. The airflow is more evenly distributed and overall the unit is much quieter, but it isn't very effective with laptops that need cooling at the backend (like the M17x).

The noise of the Cryo is louder than the NC2000, but the airflow is more also.
My only complaint is no on/off switch, but no biggie really.

I have a cryo LX (silver) as well... it aligns very well with the M17x and almost would seem it was specifically made for this (however doublful), but the M17x like snaps (not litterally) into place with M17x and doesnt budge... perfect

however, one improvement, should of made a 12 volt version so people can mod this heavy duty, and to give alot more power for the fans, since my fans go on and off when speed wheel is maxed... so right now, 1/4 of the fans power is being used/...

Wish there was a way to mod this to 12 volt so a 12 volt adaptor would work... I tried a 12 volt and my fans stopped working. dangit... but replaced speed hub thing and works again... (just to clear this up, dont use a 12 volt adaptor)
