    1440x900 is a poor resolution for a screen as large as 17"; everything will appear very large and you will be doing a lot of scrolling relative to the 1920x1200 screen.

    The 1920x1200 screen makes it possible to use multiple windows side-by-side. Also, it scales well to lower resolutions; 1440x900 and 1680x1050 look quite good on it with minimal distortion. You won't notice the difference while playing games.

    Definitely go for the 1920x1200 if you can. The rest of the advice in this thread is solid.
