What would be the best RAM to get for the M15X? Anyone know what RAM Alienware uses in the M15X? I'm thinking about when i order my M15X, I'll go with the 1 gig and buy 4 gigs and install it myself. I just can't figure out why AW charge so much for the 4 gig upgrade... but oh well w/e I've been looking at crucial RAM btw, wondering if anyone had any other suggestions, thanks :)

Alienware doesn't use any specific RAM, they buy whatever they have stock of - it could be anything, really.

Laptop RAM is generally the same all around. The key is to buy a good brand. Check out the RAM DEALS thread for the best prices. I personally recommend Corsair and OCZ. Kingston and Crucial are also known to be good.

    ORIG POSTED BY POWERPACK

Hynix. They are one of the 5 main DRAM manufactures in the world.

    Samsung largest
    Hynix 2nd largest
    Qimonda AG (Aeneon) 3rd largest
    Micron (Crucial)
    Elipda Memory

Notice they are the second largest in the world. They are not this big because they don't make good RAM and are not 2nd by selling just Hynix RAM. They wholesale DRAM to Consumer RAM manufacturers. Of K-Trons list, Crucial, Corsair, Kingston and OCZ only Crucial makes their own DRAM (Micron). So when you open up your cool new Corsair, Kingston or OCZ don't be shocked if the DRAM was made buy Hynix. Unless you know your system is picky and you have good experience with a certain brand buying "Brand Name" RAM is highly overated. As always this is notebook advice as Desktops and tweaking well that is a whole different issue. Hynix is fine and yes DeLL gets it at a very low price and sells at a very high price. Just my to cents and if not worth it remember I didn't charge you.

    Hope this helps some.........

    Hi Everyone,
If you've said the words, "I'm not paying that much for memory!!" then you've joined the long line of people looking for other solutions to upgrading their Alieware computers outside of Alienware. I've found the memory at www.crucial.com to be a good quality memory for the price. I realize that it's not a solution for all, but if you can find your model and compatible memory on the site, it's guaranteed to work. So what have you got to lose?? Check it out and see if they have a solution for you.

    I hope this helps,
    Gabe

lol.... Corsair is a great stick. It's not always that affordable, so I thought the crucial sticks might be a good solution for many.

I use Patriot and Corsair. They're pretty good. Crucial tends to be expensive... and a little obnoxious with a thread like this.
