I would like to know what you guys think is the best and most compatible ssd for the M17x R1 with the nforce chipset? Does TRIM work properly on these laptops? Also read that ssd drives are slower on nforce boards. I know that you have to use the standard win 7 controller driver instead of the nvidia one. Also heard that upgrading the ssd firmware on the nforce boards is a problem. Any info is appreciated. :)

Well I highly recommend the Intel x25m G2 160. It does great for the system. Yes you cant upgrade the firmware using the M17x R1 due to Nvidia board. I was able to update it on another system no issues. As in performance I got the recommended write and read speeds.

DO NOT use the nvidia controller software with it.

Using the windows 7 controller software, TRIM works fine with the drive.

There are plenty of threads posted with information on these drives with supporting screen shots ect..

Thanks for the reply. Does the laptop work with the ssd in ahci mode? I read that ahci is needed for the best speed, but also read that the nforce has a problem with that too.

Yes it worked in that mode just fine.. No issues. If you change the mode your SSD will perform really slow and really would be no benefit over a reg hdd..

I have the OCZ vertex limited edition and love it. Read 270mb/s write 250 mb/s w/ a sustained write of 235 mb/s

The 100 gig or 200 gig sata 2, those drives are really fast.
