Ok, i know that i want this notebook especially now that AW seems to have fixed the major bugs and even the wobble and creaking sounds (almost all of the recent user reviews have been positive and not a negative one in a while)
I need my notebook for college this coming fall semester so i would need it by the end of August at the absolute latest. I was waiting to make my order so that AW could work the kinks out of it since every new computer has things wrong with it and it was clearly a good choice since now most m15x's seem to be better.
Should i order soon because it seems that everyones notebook is taking forever to ship out, or should i wait longer. Will the price drop between now and then (prob not i guess). Id like to have it over the summer but i was hoping for some word on montevina.
Should i just get it now or is it best to keep waiting. Im sure i have to order it by july at the latest but idk if i should just order it now since its not gonna get any better or cheaper and then id have it to play around with over the summer. Any thoughts? Thanks all
-
It is very highly unlikely alienware will integrate montevina in the m15 or m17x. Several other posts about montevina show this. And according to alienware sales reps, no new laptop will be coming out this year. So i say go for it now, this is what i did, i just ordered mine 2 days ago. Then again, im taking spring courses. Get it in the summer so you can enjoy playing games on it without the worry of homework lol
-
The Clevo m860TU, a 15inch with the montevina chip, and considered to be the rival to the m15x, is coming out late June-Early July. Check out the Sager and Clevo board on these forums to get more information on it.
-
If you don't need a notebook right away, then I'd suggest waiting. A lot of new hardware and laptops are coming out soon.
-
i'm in the same boat, waiting til around mid-summer to order mine!!
-
-
thats what ill be doing waiting for the new clevo hopefully its better and cheaper if not oh wellz
-
i say go for it since many problems have been fixed. i got mine 5 days ago and its great no problems at all.
-
i would order soon as possible as most of the probs have been fixed. Its true you could wait for the clevo, but it will not have nowhere near the same batery capacity as the m15x presumably and it looks so ordinary!!!
-
im not interested in the clevo because battery life will be bad compared to the m15x and the case will be based off their current one which is heavy so i expect no real reduction in weight. I will carry this notebook around a bit so i want one on the lighter side.
-
i would order now, or atleast by the end of this month, then as you know that it takes a while to get in. also, if there are any arrising issues when you recieve the system, you will have time to send it back in for repairs before your college year starts.
-
and believe me it takes a loooooong time to get the laptop from them
-
read this:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Alienware-Area-51-m15x-Notebook.8835.0.html originally done in german, so translation not always.. but very thorough!! -
thanks! i had already read it in german but its a bit easier in english lol. I think ill just get one now. I love the battery life and the silence on stealth mode which are important to me. (in class i dont want a computer thats gonna drown out all other noise in the room!) Clevo wont come close to those features im sure and montevina isnt gonna get into this notebook. I dont even like the skullcap since i like the more refined professional look of the riply version. It doesn't scream "steal me"
-
thats what i was thinking lineazy89. Im not worried that my laptop will get broen because of the build quality. Im more worried about it being stolen! especially in Limeric Ireland. Not a very law abiding area.
im even putting the m15x into my house insurance for theft and fire cover. -
looks like lots of students, including myself are in this same situation...
def. looking foward to my first AW, and it being a kickass m15x is awesome.
glad i waited this long to see all kinks workd out n fixd, just waiting on gloss black finish, and montevina (even tho m15x prob wont get it, itll be cool to have... but still if it doesnt come with it by July-August (when i order m15x prob) its not that big of a factor).... iono wat im waiting for, but i guess ill wait a lil longer just to see watsup... the wait is a killer tho ahhh -
yea not montevina in the m15 or m17 was confirmed in these forums, and it wont have gloss black but matte black. I would order it 1.5 months before school or even earlier just in case something goes wrong.
-
Same thing here... when should i buy it for school in the fall. Im going to order end of May. that way i have the summer to have fun with it. and most the probs seem to be worked out. As far as waiting for new parts... laptops your always outdated imo. So order now im sure its gunna be a long waiting list because many people have the same idea as us lol.
Go for it -
yeah, go for it. If you keep waiting then you'll never get a laptop. The m15x is awesome.
-
dhoang how long did it take for you to get yours shipped?
-
It took me a total of a little over 2 weeks.
I was afraid in the beginning because I was stuck in phase 2 for almost two weeks. Then it jumped from phase 3 to 9 in two days.
I was told by my Roswell Crew agent that sometimes the phase chart on the website is off. It's better to call in and ask or email. -
im very worried its going to take them long to send mine. I just hit phase 2 this morning. I have a bad feeling about this. The guy on alien network said they ship within 10 days but thats not what the ets. shipping says on the website

The phases on the website aren't very accurate. Just give it some time HaloGod, it's only been three days since you ordered.
Lately Alienware has been getting the m15x orders out the door faster. The typical amount of time it takes for a company to deliver a customized laptop, from the day it was ordered to the day the customer receives it, is about 9 - 12 business days in my experience and what I have read.
-
your right Chaz, i am extremely impatient, i wish i wasnt. I just cant get my mind off it even at school/work lol
-
I know how's that feel HaloGod. same feeling when I ordered my 5793. even 1 day is too long. kepy thinking why can't they just sell it like Apple.
-
oh trust me i think im the worst...i even have a countdown for the m15x in my windows sidebar.....only about 1,288,216 seconds left till it should be in my hands
-
now where is that sidebar that I always disabled... -

In general I am a patient person, but waiting for a laptop to show up, my patience goes out the window. I procrastinate every day about its delivery until the thing arrives. Waiting for the delivery truck is *the worst*.

-
Yeah, all those Alienware server crashes are because of me.
-
Hey folks, you might have seen me just lurking around the Alienware part of the forums asking some (stupid sometimes) questions, and that's because I'm considering more and more seriously buying the m15x in about a half a year. And selling my Macbook Pro.
So my latest question is this:
What's on the roadmap for the m15x in the next half a year? CPU refresh? nVidia 9xxx series?
As I've read, some if not all of the issues the m15x had when it first came out (overheating and downclocking, screen hinges and stuff) have already been sorted out. Are there any other issues that could/need be addressed in the next half year?
edit: Oh yeah, the keyboard flexing in the arrows area. I guess that would be one of the issues that need to be addressed...
Thanks -
Do you really want AW?cos you can wait for new 15" sager with montevina and 9800gtx...
-
-
When do you need the laptop? If you can wait the longer the better.
But, if you need it, then you should go for it. Laptops will always improve. -
I'm thinking of waiting for September, October-ish.
I do have my Macbook Pro, and this machine plays the games I play currently just "fine". But with GTA IV on the horizon, Far Cry 2, and all the new releases in October, November, I was thinking of a m15x.
Also, isn't 9800m GTX just a refreshed 8800m GTX with lower power consumption?
And I don't really like Sager's computers. For some reason, I can't seem to be able to "trust" a name like Sager. I may be a noob in the laptop industry but, that's just how I feel -
The 9800 should be released for the m15x too. It's very likely. So don't count the m15x out just yet
-
yup and with certain drivers the 9800gtx is only 2.9% better or something
least now, but as time progresses the difference will increase -
-
someone was saying that the 9800GTX may not be put into the m15x because of heat issues, but isnt the 9series more energy efficient and release less heat?
-
the 9xxx generation is nothing new - just an improved version of 8xxx and therefore nothing I would really wait for. Many were disappointed by the desktop versions of the 9xxx because of this. Nvidia just made some little changes but nothing that would really justify waiting for it.
-
Sager(aka Clevo) is known as very(!!!) reliable company with excellent costumer support...+ their laptops look much better in "real life" -
-

Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron, and Invented are top contract manufacturers for companies like Dell and HP. They are first-tier and ship the vast majority of notebooks in the world. Clevo is very small in comparison. -
the 9 series coming out this summer for desktops will be a much bigger jump, such as the 9900gtx, with the new gt200 core. Hopefully the 9 series for laptops wont just be a refresh
-
-
yea but the 9900gtx based from what i have heard is def going to beat out the 9800gtx. The 9900gtx/gts are going to be very powerful, and i hear 1gb of memory on the gtx...and just some insane specs, lets hope its real
so where did you guys hear the m15x wont be upgradeable to the 9 series cards? -
umm... why on earth would you want the 9800GTX (aside from lower power consumption)?????????????
The 8800GTX is actually better is many cases (e.g. anything with high resolution requirements, large memory, it has a higher memory bandwidth...)
Does anyone see the price of the m15x coming down by about $200 - $400 any time soon... say when the clevo comes out? If they could drop the price... because I was all set to get this, when I realized that a gateway is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much cheaper... like.. $800 -
-
PM away
Best time to order an m15x?
