So I ordered my M17X through BestBuy 9 days ago, checked my order status and found that it was still "backordered". So I called them up and asked what was taking so long and they said "We're waiting for the manufacturer to send us the product".

The whole time I believed that BestBuy had these M17X's stored somewhere ready to be shipped but I believe they're just getting it through Dell like the rest of you. Unfortunately, I also bought through BestBuy because I'm leaving for Europe in two weeks and was expecting the computer soon. Sad news.

So anyone who's considering buying through BestBuy, think again. They're waiting for Dell to build it and send it to them.

And here I thought I'd have my M17X right now.... :(

    So......

    "Backordered," means what do you?

    A> I'm back and I just ordered

B> You ordered a new back

C> An item is out of stock and will be shipped when available

of course they are going to be getting the comp through dell, you think best buy manufactures them too? they are just resellers, like any other reseller they order through the manufacturer for you.. They can't exactly keep a stock of these machines as it would be a waste if they didn't all sell so it is a on demand type deal.

Only time i'd order through a reseller is if they provide custom configs that the manufacturer doesn't otherwise why have another person inbetween you and your order to screw it up?

I agree with the OP, what's the point of of someone like best buy if they don't have them in stock, may as well order through dell.

They did have a big shipment when they originally posted them on their website. I know, I looked, and it didn't say backorder for the first week or so they had it up there. They probably just got more orders then they had stock for, hence the backorder, so saying they're not legit is a bit harsh IMO.

Besides, the point of ordering from them is that it's cheaper than ordering direct from Dell.

I don't understand? What would be the advantage of ordering through Best Buy??

Incidentally, you can check their inventory online, usually right in the store.

Its best you call up and check if they have it on stock and what quantity.

I wouldn't give BB a dime of my money. I hate that place so unless they have some super-config that Dell doesn't offer and is much cheaper I wouldn't even think of giving BB my money.

I know the config they have up is like $300 cheaper, give or take, it doesn't have the WUXGA screen. To me that is a deal breaker.

I know they sell some brand that are unique to their store, but when last I checked AW wasn't one of them.

AW is not unique to them so I am not sure what you are getting at. As far as a certain config well they have only 1 (and it is cheaper but doesn't have what I want anyway).

You'll still face a delay since the screen is out of stock, unless unlike BestBuy they could afford to get a massive order in before the stock issues

In fact, not every quote I make is a correction...or challeng of someone's post. Rather, in most cases, an extention or sometimes merely a reference to said post.
