just realized this now. Bios v41 is in myhive.

Thanks Exiled.
+1 for that.

What is the patch note ?
-

Features and fixes in this BIOS release:
Increases finger touch button sensitivity
Before you run the BIOS update:
Make sure that your computer has the battery and the AC-Adapter connected
Disconnect any third party peripherals from the computer
Do NOT turn the computer off during the BIOS update
Do NOT restart the computer during the BIOS update
Do NOT eject the CD-ROM from the drive during the BIOS update
CAUTION: Improperly updating or flashing the BIOS CMOS chip on a motherboard can damage it to the point of rendering it useless. Accordingly, you should perform this BIOS update only with the assistance of an Alienware technical support agent. Instructions: Extract the contents of the ZIP file and burn the ISO image onto a CD. Boot from the CD-ROM and press "R" when prompted to run the firmware update. The message "Successful, current version is: 41" will be displayed on the screen and the computer will reboot automatically. Eject the disc by pressing the FN+F8 key combination. -
let us know if any changes!
-
Taco (or someone else with the extreme processor)... let us know if it does something for overheating and CPU downclocking.
Cheers -
interesting. i think i'll wait for some feedback till i flash it myself, as i'm perfectly happy with x32
-
I'll try it when it'll be available in my european MyHive, maybe in 3 months... lol
-
Well. wasn't able to install this BIOS. I already had it installed on my m15x. Go figure. I was wondering why my touchbuttons were already good...
-
If this works then that's good news, at least one problem is fixed!
-
Oh... so, there's no Bios update. It's just an update for the touch controls.
That makes more sense... Dhoang, you are on Bios X32RC1, no?
I've never had any problems with touch controls myself. -
Yes Milcs. You are right. The BIOS update is not for the Video, but for the touch controls. I'm on the Bios X32RC1.
-
I see...
A bit of a misleading title hein!? -
Hi,I can not see this new Bios on my UK Hive, can someone upload them somewhere please?
-
well I can tell you my bios didn't really help my touch controls.
-
-
now i'm lost... so is it a new BIOS or not?
-
it is a new bios version. this bios is suppose to fix the sensitvity of the controls for your touch butotns.
-
Just for clarification this is a BIOS update for the MULTIMEDIA board... not the motherboard and not the video card.
-
But I thought that you had a Bios... and that's it! I'm lost here...
So, when you switch on your computer and it says:
Bios version: X32RC1
Is it not going to be changed to:
Bios version: X41
??? -
These are two different BIOS. THe X32R1 is for the GPU thermal profiles. The X41 is for the MULTIMEDIA BOARD.
-
Like milcs said, you only have 1 bios (hardware) and multiple bios versions (software). A bios contains instructions for the cpu to control hadware. That includes video card, touch controls, wifi card, keyboard, multimedia board (whatever that is) ...
-
well I updated mine vol control still sux and it didn't full update my system bios cause I just check the bios through the bios screen and also with cpu-z and its still the same Bios I had before updating. the file is called M15x MMB 4.1
-
Do you have the X32RC1 BIOS installed Taco??
-
yeah I didn't want to but my card was downclocking in COD4 so I updated and haven't had a problem. After I did that update today my bios didn't change.
-
I'm still lost...
But then again, today wasn't a great day.
So... is this a new Bios version or just a fix for the keys?
What's the difference between X32RC1 and X41? Is X41 the final X32RC1? I don't get it... -
41 is not a bios update I think its more of a flash for the touch controls and no it didn't help me.
-
Oh... sort to say... Alienware throwing dust into people's eyes!? Well... we are all so used to that!
-
I saw this yesterday, and asked myself why I hadn't already seen about a thousand boards announcing it was out...
It's like I go away for a week and when I come back, everyone is slow... -
There seems to be some confusion here about a BIOS.
A video card has it's own bios
The motherboard has it's own bios... called the "system bios"
Almost everything has it's own bios.. it's what controls the hardware.
The harddrive controller has it's own bios.
Do a google on video card BIOS and you will find many different ones that you can flash to your video card to increase fan speeds, overclock, etc.
This bios is exactly what it says it is for:
The multimedia board.
Just for general information here are some of the BIOS versions in my system (these all shipped with my system):
System BIOS (motherboard): vX32 P3A33 - I am not certain if this is before or after x32 RC1
VGA BIOS (integrated video card): Santa Rosa 1533
VGA BIOS (discrete video card aka 8800GTX): nVidia 2.92.23.00.04
Multimedia Board BIOS: v41 -
I overlooked the touch buttons.

Do they have some GPU driver updates? Do they have new update to solve the downclocking CPU? Do they have a new Bios that prevents the lid to break? DO they have a new driver that prevents your GPU to go over 100ºC?
I know, I know... I'm being a pain!I'll stop now.
-
Kafka... thanks for clearing that up.
-
They actually did have GPU driver updates.. they came out with 175.80 last week I think. -
Damn... you got me there!
I'm joking... Good work for AW.
Now the CPU downclocking... that yes, has to be addressed soon. -
BIOS is actually an incorrect term, BIOS, or, Basic Input/Output System, has been almost completely discontinued and replaced with the Extensible Firmware Interface. What you're talking about is FIRMWARE, not a BIOS.
an x86 Computer has ONE BIOS. "The primary function of the BIOS is to identify and initiate component hardware (such as hard disk, floppy and optical disk drives). This is to prepare the machine so other software programs stored on various media can load, execute, and assume control of the PC." Source
Basically, what I'm trying to outline here is that the BIOS, as such, initiates SEVERAL components. each of which can have it's own Firmware, though, not all components need firmware to activate... Some are merely built to do a job and are so simple they do not need to be initialized in any particular order. Disk Drives, for example, have a firmware, due to the fact that they each have their own controller, to manage spindle speed, read head location, etc.
For the most part, there is only one BIOS per motherboard, and it manages ALL on-board functions... or rather, it stores the code that does so.
In my mind, and my opinion, IT IS DOUBTFUL THAT THE SYSTEM BIOS AND VIDEO BIOS ARE DIFFERENT.
It's likely that by updating to "v41" you will update ALL BIOS software.
This isn't to say that kefka is entirely wrong. He may just be misunderstanding/misinterpreting the different parts or relying on information that isn't entirely reliable. -
Don't get pissed off... What pisses me off are World conflicts.
Life is too short! -
+ XKCD is right...
-
-
I'm also using X32RC1. I'll be updating to v41 later tonight. I'll be sure to take pictures of the BIOS version readout before and after to prove my point.
/better than arguing about it -
I'm not going to get into an IT pissing war here but a BIOS (basic input/output system) is firmware.....
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmware
I will not quote the whole thing but I will provide an excerpt and you can read the rest for youself.
"The easiest firmware to update is typically the system boot-related firmware, such as the BIOS in PCs."
Examples of firmware include:
The BIOS found in IBM-compatible Personal Computers;
The platform code found on Itanium systems, Intel-based Mac OS X machines, and many Intel desktop boards is EFI compliant firmware;
Open Firmware, used in computers from Sun Microsystems and Apple Computer;
ARCS, used in computers from Silicon Graphics;
RTAS (Run-Time Abstraction Services), used in computers from IBM;
EPROM chips used in the Eventide H-3000 series of digital music processors.
The iPod's control menus
System Software updates on Xbox, Xbox 360, PSP, PS3, DS and Wii.
The Common Firmware Environment (CFE)
Timing and control systems for Washing machines
Cisco IOS.
P.S. all you need to do is go into you m15x bios and it will list the VGA and system bios versions for you.
P.S.S. From your own source http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIOS
A computer system can contain several BIOS firmware chips. The motherboard BIOS typically contains code to access fundamental hardware components such as the keyboard, floppy drives, ATA (IDE) hard disk controllers, USB human interface devices, and storage devices. In addition, plug-in adapter cards such as SCSI, RAID, Network interface cards, and video boards often include their own BIOS, complementing or replacing the system BIOS code for the given component.
Perhaps you should know what you are talking about before you come in here and further confuse the people I'm trying to help -
-
Taco, do your sleep controls work after you reboot?
-
yeah they do work after reboot but not after sleep
-
PM your system info and anything that you changed in your system and I will try to troubleshoot it with you.
-
-
The only thing this update did was increase the sensitivity of the touch controls. The issue taco is having is something else.
-
Absolutely hilarious -
especially when he was the one who was wrong.. he pwned himself
