Meh, an M15X configured to similar specs of the G53JW is still drastically high. I'm not sure if that -350$ is the sale, since I didn't see "Black Friday" beside it.
It's a shame, b/c I was considering buying Alienware this time.
1080/i7/500gb/6g ram/5850 for under 1500$ and I'd be happy, but nope![]()
If the price doesn't go lower or has a bigger sale, I may just go with the G53JW-A3, which just came out for 1349$ (320 5200R HD, which you can upgrade to 500 7200R HD for 25$) ...everything else is the same.
C'mon Alienware, at least match the G53 price and let me give you a shot!

i just got a email about the m11x at 599 i never considered even getting a so small notbook befor but this is on the verge of driving me into an impulsive buyin
-
@jdbaker82 -- my friend really want my m11x so i ordered another one for him.. huge discount, really the best bang for the buck! thanks again..
-
Just as an FYI, I just found this coupon for an additional $50 off on top of the original $200: BHW1L0MX0D?MCX
I upgraded the ram to 4g and the hdd to 250g 7200rpm so it came out to be $650... I'm such a happy camper -
yeah its 599 like i had posted in another thread but it was closed down
cool thanks for the cupon -

Hmm 200 off but only on the R1 with some pretty poor options (160gb HDD no Bluetooth etc)
Id get it I think if it was the i5 cpu or i7 but not the older R1 tech. -
Do you guys think this is a good deal to jump on with a 250 gig hard drive upgrade and 4 gigs of ram at $699 or should I jump on Dell's outlet store for an i5/250GB HD/4 gigs of RAM for $869?
I'm only pretty interested in playing games like SC2, Overlord, and Civ5. Not exactly a heavy computer user but I'll be deployed next year and I'm looking for a small laptop that can handle games decently well. And for whatever games are coming out in the next couple of years. -
I would just wait if you really wanted an r2. If I had waited I would have snagged on this deal $550 for an r1! since there is a stackable coupon. Only upgrade would be 4 gig ram and swap the drive myself. WDblack 500 gig is only 59 dollars where as the ram upgrade would be 50 or more if you did it yourself. -

500GB 7200rpm HDD are easy to find for around $50, so don't even consider a HDD upgrade from Alienware. 4GB RAM for $50 is a decent update, though. Hmm, will that $50 off work on the $600 model without any upgrades? I could buy it for $550 then upgrade the RAM and HDD myself for around $80-$90. I'm gonna assume the CPU can't be upgraded to an i5 on the R1 motherboard?
Also, I wanted that soft touch finish since it doesn't show scratches well. Is the R1 finish as scratch-resistant? -
I almost went the impulsive buy route when I saw the $599 offer, but the memory is too low, disk is too small, and I'd rather a core i5 than a core 2 duo. Not a problem though - a quick call to Alienware after adding the M11X I really want to my shopping cart and they matched the black friday offer on the higher end specc'd machine.
-
im really looking to buy that model but i need that 200$ off haha -

How do you guys think the Core 2 will do with games down the line? Mainly Star Wars Old Republic and The Witcher 2?
-
I'm also interested in this additional discount.
Please do tell ^_^ -
I tried this and they were only M17x-R1's. Yuck! -
kinda sad to be settling for a r1 but price was just too good! well at least i got money to upgrade hdd and ram
-
Got my deal.
Nebula/740/RAM-6G/HD 500G-7200/1080P/5850/WiFi5300/9cell/Blu-Ray Reader/Three year warranty/$1900 plus tax shipped.
How did I do? -
That's odd ...the "deals" on the Canadian website are no longer there (for the M11X) ...I hope they're editing the site or something so they can re-add it ...
-
If Alienware matched Asus's price, they'd have to sacrifice build quality and warranty service. I don't think anyone that owns an AW would be willing to give up either. -
Sorry,
Forgot to say Purchase is M15X -
There advertising the M11x for so cheap, but you dont get much, haha
-
Asus is rated #1 in reliability and Dell/Alienware is mid-field (repair statistics).
Asus also has 2 year global warranty and 1 year accidental, meanwhile Alienware has 1 year mail-in. Sure you can upgrade it for the house-call warranty (which I find great), but for a cost.
They're both great companies, though.

Luckily the Canadian Alienware site is "fixed" and the M11X is @ 599$-50$I'm borderline buying it, but I want to find out how one of the posters got 200$ worth of free upgrades.
-
Alienware does NOT have mail in service. Everything is at home with next day repair unlike Asus which IS mail in. Asus's warranty is garbage, they make you send in the entire laptop if a single screw is missing on your system and you have to wait 2 weeks for turn around and even then the problem may not be fixed. Those reliability surveys are useless as well, they compare Dell's entire line and volume (which is much larger than Asus). Alienware vs Asus is what we're talking about and in that regard, an Alienware system is built and serviced entirely differently than Dell's regular line of inspirons. To be frank, Asus blows. It's smarter to grab an Alienware from the Dell outlet than to buy a new Asus IMO. -

I've been watching YT videos on upgrading the M11X (ram/HD). Seems easy enough - I think I'll save my money on upgrades and buy the ram/hd on newegg like you guys were suggesting -
take the ASUS vs AW debate/discussion to PM or to the Off Topic section of NBR. Any further posts comparing the two will be removed. Thanks.

I don't know if you can order from Dell USA in Canada (maybe via 3rd party mail service) but Dell Outlet tends to have 15-20% off coupons on already discounted outlet hardware. I think that will easily beat any deal you could get through black friday or otherwise. The system in my sig was from Dell outlet, initially it had a few scuffs on it and Dell went ahead and sent me a brand new factory built system as an exchange--pretty great service. Save your money and go that route if you can. -
Awwww, all those deals are for Americans only. The prices are absolutely amazing and the fact that you can add more home-service warranties over the years is another huge plus.
Edit: LOL apparently the "Canadian version" is dfsdirect.ca ...2-5 year old trash that's been off-lease. Not a single game capable laptop.
Edit 2: Considering finding a US buddy to forward one to me. -

Another Black Friday arrives and departs... hope everyone enjoyed scoring decent sales - AW or otherwise...
