Click "360" on the m15x on Alienware's US site. When the ripley design loads click Skullcap. Then, when that loads click ripley and you'll see a black m15x (it's definitely the m15x and not the M9750 or the m17x) appear. So Alienware took the time to make a 360 degree viewable version of the black m15x. That means that if they take the time to take a 360 degree of the black m15x, that it's definitely coming soon. Probably on the day of the next AlienNetwork video, June 24.

Well i've seen that too and it doesn't mean that it is coming out. by "taking time" to make the black m15x you mean some shading was selected to be darker. It is quite possible that it is a shading issue that looks black. Maybe it will be the black m15x that will be released but by no means is it definite because of that.

personally i would like to see better pics of the black version but i dont think it looks all that great. The silver one looks much sleeker. To each his own.

Mmmm, black Ripley. Skullcap is a little -too- "bling" for my tastes (yeah, yeah, I know it's Alienware and everything, but...), and I don't like how the silver cases still have black borders for the screen.

I think the lighting complements black just fine.

maybe more solid rubber feet underneath the pc? :p

But seriously, instead of meaningful updates to the system they seem to be opting for the looks over substance method of selling more pcs. I'm glad I went with Dell in the end...

ive been told the 9800m GTX is still in the pipe line future upgrade unlike the clevo15... so mabye its to do with that?

i agree that linking a new full case color ( and paint job finish) with a hardware change is a good way to reduce manufacturing time while still allowing dif options... but who knows.

Doesn't the 988GTX required Monty to run correctly?

Sounds good although i wonder how long it will take for the drivers to be released, if an exchange policy was arranged. Obviously with a hefty discount for existing owners of say less than 1 year...

the m15x will never have the 9800m gtx. the clevo15 (M860tu) does not have the 9800m GTX "supported" because of heat issues.

the m15x can barely handle the 8800mgtx let alone the 9800m gtx unless its downclocked in wich case its just another 8800 then

until we know what heat the M860Tu runs a 8800m GTX at u cant say any thing. All we can know is that the 9800m GTX runs hotter than the 8800m GTX in the M860Tu clearly. it in no way informs us if it will be in the m15x or not.. the M860Tu could well run its 8800m GTX hotter than a m15x its well possible seing as clevo have compleatly ruled out the 9800m GTX and alienware are still examining it. But mabye alienware just has the balls/guts to let its GPUs run hotter than clevo.. who knows?

Sorry i cant repost a email here because its against the disclaimer.. but i was given the impression that the 9800m GTX is in the RnD pipeline for the m15x i was told this before clevo made its no 9800m GTX announcement however... so i guess its still all up in the air.

I'm thinking it may come with montevina because they are not just gonna wait 7 months for a paint job.
Btw, I think the black looks really sweet with the ripley design. Anybody knows when the m9800 will be out?

I was told they are going to put jet engines into the M15x but I can't say who from AW told me this.

If people can't back up their statements with at least some evidence (words are really not enough), please then don't lead people to believe things that are, very likely, completely wrong.
    Inform, do not misinform... Thanks.

    It's confidencial... I can't disclose who as it's against the law. :D

Please let's not get carried away as some people did with this news regarding a "new" chassis.
The only thing we know is that there is the possibility the M15x will come out in black and... that's all. Why do people have the need to come and make up lots of theories and predictions? Let's not lead people into false statements. This is what people will take home "Oh, the M15x is going to have triple SLI 9800GTX and quad cores".
If you want to say something, then back it up... If you can't, then keep it to yourself. It can only help all of us.

Eh, forgive me if i'm wrong but, isn't the 9880GTX built on the smaller die size, therefore runs faster but, the same or cooler temperatures?

I agree with you Milcs, there was a furious time when the "New Chassis" was going to be released.... it turned out to be.... Skullcap, so not quite a new chassis lol

If new and better things are going to be released, advance warning is great but, not if it's speculation and people get there hopes up and wait for months for false promises based upon a rumour...

I want the m17x but, i'm waiting until i see a review from Chaz before deciding on anything else... I'll wait until i get evidence to the performance etc of the new and shiny...

    Just my 2p...

You know, who came up with the name "skullcap" anyway? Where exactly is the skull or cap on the computer? It always makes me think of the little hats that jewish men wear. I always pass them on the sidewalk headed to the synagogue when I'm out running on the weekends. They always call me dirty catholic and try to trip me. kidding of course, ;)

Wow, thanks. I thought it would be cooler due to less processor to get hot...

Ho hum, let's hope they don't put them into the m15x, not that i don't think the upgrade would be cool it's just that there's already heating problems... without adding more heat... ;)

The 9800M-GTX uses the same core as the 8800M-GTX (G92), so it makes sense that it runs hotter with higher clocks.

I think the black m15x looks great; if I was buying one, it would be black.

I hope it is powered by the GE Rolls-Royce F136 like they use in the Joint Strike Force F-35, it has a maximum thrust of 40.000 lb . That is the cats meow.

Now don't get me wrong, the Pratt & Whitney F135 has a maximum thrust of 40.000 lb also which is nothing to sneaze at and is used in the F/A 22 Raptor as well.

These engines allow vertical flight on the F-35 so for use on a M15X we should all be happy with the performance! :D

Jeez it looks like I'm a little late here on this post. But anyways, AW actually said there would be a black skullcap from the start.

For everyone out there: AW took the time to make a completely working black glossy m15x with the skullcap, I can't believe you guys haven't seen all of the pics from engadget lol. I'll go link them for you. Actually I'll just make a new thread so this doesn't come up again.

well to be fair they said the m15x would come out in black silver and both rip and skull cap by the time of the next alienware network which is on the 24th of this month... they said this on the 29th of april if im not confused..

its more the wait has made even one sensitive my self included and we asumed the silver skullcap would be the only 2 options... i think by the end of the month we will prob see all 4 options.

    black skullcap

    black rip

    silver skullcap

    silver rip

The big question left is what type of paint is used on the m15x in black will it be gloss or will it be matte like how the m17x was shown in engine room videos on the AW set..and if the 9800m GTX will be added to the m15x (which i personally think it will from all indications given to me) it is said to be cheaper and with toshiba launching a laptop with it this week i think alienware will follow up in a week or 2..

also if u noticed the background of the quick ship option on the m9750 changed from green to red..(indicating its coming to a end?). i wouldn't be shocked if they soon run out of m9750 and move mabye a stock silver config of m15x to the quick ship program... would make sense to me.

all in all alienware has actually been very open about its plans for the m15x.. and like they said in april are spacing the dif con figs of the m15x out over this month before the next network video..

Choices... choices. I don't want anymore choices! I can barely dress myself in the mornings as it is! It took me forever to decide what specs I wanted on my M15x order (even though that one has been cancelled now). And now they may be giving us another colour choice *pulls hair out a bit*. It looks so classy and sleek in the silver... and the black keyboard against a different colour chassis really sets the keys off. And even the black screen surround adds character. The whole laptop reminds me of a cool 1950's sci-fi prop.

The black colour option (if we do get that rumoured option) looks nice too, but it doesn't seem to have as much character as the silver. It looks cool with the lights, but I'm not sure about the key colour matching the chassis.
