hello guys, i formated my m9750 HDD and inserted the XP cd, after that i ended with the blue screen's copying files, then after tVIA the Alienrespawn dvd but after it installs and everything and reboots i still see a black screen ;S i hope nothing got burned or something, please help is required!
-
Do you see something when booting now? Just to know whether your screen still works. Does the screen go black just before logon? Ifso it could be your vga card that is the problem.. vga modus (during boot) can work while your card is fried.
-
well i can see the logo after that i get the black screen
-
You mean you see the windows logo before the black screen right? and you get this with a clean install done 2 different ways 1. with a original xp cd and 2. with the AW dvd (which contains Vista?).
I need to know because I don't know their restore procedure. If however this is the case better contact AW. You will probably need a new vga card. -
Damn i bet many people got this problem before!:S
-
a new what??!?! omg i'm about to pass out :S, btw i see the black screen BEFORE the windows logo, just after AW logo
-
have you tried pressing F12 when it starts and try safe-mode?
-
So the AW cd is not a restore cd (complete image)?
-
That changes your options a bit. The AW dvd then maybe contains drivers and apps with an auto install with maybe a faulty driver. I need to no more details about your AW dvd.
-
it is a restore CD, butstill after it completes i see the logo and then the black screen...and also i think i tried safe-mode, nothing there still a blackey, some people think it doesnt recognize my SATA driver.
-
If so press f8 during boot and choose safe mode
-
in safe mode no 3rd party drivers are loaded so then you know if it is a driver or not
-
ok i'll try 1 sec
-
wait.. i have to restore again cause i formatted again.. :S
-
I also wonder whether your partition is active normally you will only see a blinking cursor in the upper left corner of your screen when its not.
-
its Blinking i guess, also after restoring its stuck on the message " Please press any key to boot from dvd/cd)....
-
unclear: this is when you boot from the AW dvd? or is the dvd still in the drive after restoring
-
after restoring and the dvd is still inside, when i take out the dvd and reboot i see a black screen with a while cursor blinking
-
hmm you need to see whether your partition is active let me see do you have any tools like a rescue cd or a windows pe cd?
-
hehe i dont even know what the hell are those :S
-
If not will look up an iso boot image for ya but I will try it out for you first so I know what you will encounter before i give you the link. the ones i have are made by me and are to big
-
ok give me some time
-
+rep to ssurreall for being so helpful!

another thing to try...hit del when you see the alienware screen, this shoudl take you into setup (BIOS), goto the far right screen, select 'load default setting', say 'yes' then select 'save changes and exit' select 'yes' and your machine will reboot. It may or may not do anything, but it you can access your BIOS that is a good thing.
We just fixed a buddies desktop computer that was acting like yours, it ended up being a faulty hdd...you could install windows on it, you could see it in BIOS, but when the time came to boot up it would just go to black screen, we fired in a new hd and it worked like a charm.
Good Luck -
well i have the same problem of that buddy you are talking about, i see everything in Bios and stuff and i can install the windows just when its show time (boot time) nothing happens, do you think i should get a new HDD? 0_0
-
true but if the partition is not set to active during a partially faulty setup the effect is the same as you describe it is very easy to resolve if you have the tool...
I looked up and downloaded 1 burned it and used it on my workstation helas its only has a mbr and partition recovery procedure. $#@! i have all the stuff here in my hand but its to big to send. what your looking for is something like Hiren' s boot cd or a linux boot cd (forget that one to complicated). Or does your machine have a floppy drive?
and thanks shamneoyou to hamish33
-
we only need to know whether this is the case otherwise you'ld be waisting a good hdd for nothing
-
well i dont have a floppy drive unfortunatly...
-
hmmm 1 moment I'll try to lookup another possibility
-
here is a detailed describe of what happened.
I wanted to install XP on m machine after i got sick of Vista so what i did was insert the XP SP2 installation CD, after that choose to formate the driver with NTFS then after formatting it started copying files, then after reboot i got a black screen with a blinking Cursor, after that i popped the AW recovery DVD, then choosed to format, after that it installed and rebooted then i got the black screen with the cursor if i get the dvd out, and the Press any key to boot thing if its still in. -
ok i'm back and i got something 1 moment need to switch my machine
-
ok thanks you are very helpful

http://www.tucows.com/download.html?software_id=517117&t=2
click this link and download this lil' image it contains a partition tool i've tested it just now -
hmmm no deeplink
-
can you download it from a mirror?
-
wait 1 sec
-
Okay... downloading now, what am i supposed to do with it?
-
you need the file ptd.iso and burn it on cd
-
your burn program - use open compilation/project.... not to burn as a data file
-
kk 1 sec man
-
if you done that your cd will be bootable and boot your pc with it. It will load a freedos 'kernel' then a GUI which is easy to use you should see now your partitions tell me when your in that stage
-
so.. is it ok to burn it on a dvd?
-
you can try that yes...as long as its bootable
-
if you can boot it you will see a window with your partition(c: ) you can select it with your cursor if it not says active and set it with your spacebar
-
ok lets hope the old compaq laptop i'm using can copy stuff...
-
okay burning now, and believe me its slow as hell 53% now
-
copy? you do know how to burn iso's right? I have to ask I don't know how 'deep' your knowledge goes..
-
its a small image 2MB
-
i know so, i went to Burn Image, chose the .iso file, and now its burning to the dvd.. did i miss something?
-
when the dvd is finished it has files on it like command.com, ptd.exe etc.
