bad news maybe still you maybe wiped the partition during prior actions. Sector erro is bad but can be a standard message when there is no partition. can you make a partition with it?

This is why you don't downgrade to windows xp.

windows xp was a great operating system, as 98.7 percent of people use windows. It was meant to be used on 1-5 year OLD computers...

The drive test is for checking errors on your disk if so your disk is a goner and should be replaced however you say 100? i was expecting m15x 200gb my mistake. in that case i really have to know what brand plz check your bios for the name or number

Ok I have not read all of this, but I know that after installing xp it messed it up. If all else fails, use the restore thing. Also if even that fails, you could buy a better hdd for like $200 and use the disk on that.

again I have no idea what the situation but those are my suggestions

by the way the usb hdd cannot be used for your pc unless you can boot from usb so easier is to take it out of its shell and replace it with the one in your computer which is an easy operation IF the seagate is broken

SeaTools for DOS will instruct the drive to run its built in Drive Self Test (DST) and give either a pass or fail status. If you are troubleshooting your disc drive and the DST passes, then you have a good drive. Is what seagate says you didn't see either?
