So the reason why im asking here is cuz tech support is closed, maybe someone can answer really quick.

    Ok..

    (M17X)
i ordered the blu ray READER, how do i go about upgrading to the blu ray WRITER... do they send someone to your house and take it apart? or do i have to send it back to dell, having to wait again!

(still waiting for my system from fedex.)

its only $150 more for the writer...

    anybody knows??

    Thanks.

you will have to buy the writer outright which will be like 600+ dollars i think and they will either send it to you and you do it or they will send some one out to put it in.

You will get to keep the old one ........ Its not a simple upgrade price since they system is already purchased you will have to buy a whole new one

Are you seriously planning on writing Blu-Ray (HD Movies)?!? Or are you thinking that you would use Blu-Ray discs for data? Because right now, they are more expensive then CD's or DVD's.

If you 'had' a big problem which led you to get a full refund without getting the restocking fee you could then reorder with the writer. If it was just a problem say with your blu ray they would fix that so it wouldn't help you upgrade to the writer in any way

Apologies for hijacking the thread, but i didn't think my question desersed it's own.

Does the M17x come with the necessary software to play Blu-Ray movies, or is this something i need to purchase separately?

Yes, it comes with Cyberlink PowerDVD provided you purchased it with the Blu-Ray reader or writer.

Yes, and so will the drives, so you may want to wait quite a while before you buy.

You'll be much better off buying an external hard drive (even just a pocket sized one) turns out much cheaper when you consider the costs of the writer. And then there's the fact that blu-ray discs are VERY slow due to the fact that they spin so slowly compared to DVDs.

I upgraded to the blu ray writer on my own and had no problems...You need to find a uj235a this is the only writer that is compatible at this time. I found one on ebay for 299 - 8% cash back....So, it cost me less then the upgrade and I still have my old one to ebay or sell off. The process is easy if you are a tech guy.

Keep you eye on ebay and search it out without the A just uj235

Here is one...I emailed the guy a while back and he would take 325 paypaled....I can verify FOR SURE this drive is 100% compatible! Good Luck!
