Does anyone else have this problem? I've had it off and on since I got my M17x a couple months ago, but it seems to have gotten worse. I'm not sure if it's the new Win7 drivers that caused it to get worse, or if that's just a coincidence.

Basically, what happens is that the bluetooth module will just randomly shut off. When this happens, Windows cannot even detect that it's installed. The wireless switch does nothing. I can turn off wireless and back on (which normally does affect bluetooth when it's working), but that doesn't bring bluetooth back. The ONLY way to get bluetooth back when it fails is to completely power off the computer and turn it back on (restarting windows doesn't help).

I doubt it matters in this case, since a driver issue would most likely result in bluetooth working after a restart, but I'm running Windows 7 x64 (have been since I got it... Barely even booted in Vista, just to get the backgrounds, etc.) Also, it doesn't seem to matter what's connected to it. I have a mouse and headphones that connect, but I can be using (or not) either and still randomly have the problem. I suppose a bad driver COULD shut the module down, which is one reason I'm writing this, because if that were the case, a lot of you would suddenly have this same problem since upgrading to Win7.

same problem here, if alienware its already selling their laptops online with windows 7 installed they would not sell them with all of this issues of wireless, bluetooth and, more problems so it seems that they have not updated their drivers, i expected more from alienware, right now im stuck using my gateway p-7805 because i cannot get my wireless on my new m17x to work, you are a shame alienware

    Update:

Dell replaced the bluetooth module, but that didn't fix it. However, after troubleshooting it for days... I think I've figured it out.

Taking a page from the wireless problem with the new chipset firmware, I thought about checking the powersave features:

In Device Manager, open up the "Bluetooth Radios" group and right-click the "Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Mini-Card" item, then select Properties. Under the "Power Management" tab, UNCHECK the option to "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

It seems that something may be wrong with power management. Both the wireless and bluetooth are seeming to have problems when power management is allowed to turn them off. It's like it THINKS that the device is not in use, so it shuts it down. The problem, with the bluetooth at least, is that it can't turn it back on again.

After doing this, I've not yet had the problem recur.
