Anyone has any experience with the M17's Expresscard slot?

I see there are some SSD for Expresscards slots and I am wondering if the M17 allows you to boot from one of those. It would be kinda cool to have a third OS (like Mac OS X), although I would probably benefit more from the extra removable space.

Anyway, I am just curious about this. Any links?

well, vista can boot from USB devices, so i don't see why this shouldn't be possible. haven't tried it myself though.

Yeah, so can Linux. But I am wondering if the BIOS lets you boot from specifically an Expresscard. Hmmm...

OK, just in case people are wondering. You can boot from ExpressCard on the M17. The BIOS setting for this is PCMI something HDD.

I know we are not supposed to discuss this but how do you install a graphics driver (note I said driver only, is that not allowed either?) on Mac OS X Leopard? It's my 3rd OS on the M17.

The thing is that the distro I am using did have the option to install HD3870 x2 drivers but I didn't pick it because I thought it might cause an error on the installation. Now I don't want to reinstall because it is working flawlessly, even the wireless. I'm typing from it now.

    Hmmm....

Any OS can boot from USB, its just Hardware thing and not totally dependent on software. Hardware Abstraction Layer to its job and your OS sees the USB Mass Storage as another HDD. Most of the latest BIOS support boot from USB so you should be good.... Alienware is no exception
