I have just ordered an m15x and suddenly thought, LED's are bright! how bright is the keyboard, can it be used at night with a dimmed screen or is it too bright?

I really only got it because i like coloured lights and there have been so many times where i have thought to myself '**** i wish i could see my keyboard' whilst just stabbing in the dark getting no where near the keys i wanted! i dont want to have spent all my money and be thinking **** i wish i had a dimmable keyboard.

im just a bit worried now

any help is much appreciated, thanks in advance

I usually use the m15x at night, and turn out all the lights in the room. It's not too bright, just bright enough to see the keys clearly at night

ok, thanks, just someone else said they where quite bright!

how is your glossy screen? is it awfully reflective?

i will be using it in uni where there are windows at the back of the class room so i am concerned that all i will be able to see is my face or bright refections all the time and also a reflection from the keyboard at night.

i have ordered the same screen as you but the sales guy was convinced that it was matt, i was convinced it was gloss! although, the guy i spoke to before was convinced that both screens where gloss! hmmm, not sure how i can get this sorted out and confirmed by alienware if no one can agree.

I haven't had problems with the glossy screen at work. I'll give it a try against direct light tomorrow morning and let you know how it fares :)

Keyboard is bright, but not too bright + if you choose a darker colour it should be fine :)

Glossy screen is a good one, it's fine in strong light :)

Well, I'm sitting beside the window typing this now. It's kinda cloudy this morning though. But lights in this room are rather bright, and I still I have no problems with glare whatsoever :)

I got used to them. At night though does take getting used to during the day is no prob at all from the get go. Perhaps they should add a brightness adjustment feature! :)

I think being able to manipulate the opacity of the brightness is an excellent idea. I sometimes feel like it actually is not bright enough. It does indeed illuminate the keyboard enough for viewing pleasure, though.

I personal agree with having the ability to change the opacity of the keyboard lighting, that would make the Laptop more attractive to many buyers. :D

I have a proposed feature for AuroraLightsFX , to monitor the webcam for external lighting and then adjust he brightness accordingly. Sounds fair enough ?

    Quite fair...

I agree with that in a sense that it would be practical to implement.

Plus i just love little gadgets and silly stiff like that on a laptop. its a quirk :\

this has been very reassuring and i do hope alienware release something to dim the lights.

also thanks for the info on the screen cha. although i have had 3 people from AW say that this is a matte screen and the other is glossy and 2 say they are both glossy! i wish they would train their staff properly! this is really off putting for the first time buyer. also, CS hung up on me! good job i couldn't get back through to them just after it happened or a may have canceled my order! (i wont say what else i would have done lol)

You're welcome Delta 9. I too have had bad experiences with Alienware's customer service. The laptop itself is great though, 3 months now and still having a blast with it :)

i suppose every one is human and makes mistakes hey?

i have gone for the high def screen even though you seemed to think it was ok in light, thanks again for testing! i went to a local computer shop for the umteenth time and finally decided i just dont like plastic looking screens. each to his own i suppose!

oh and i got the upgrade half price as the guy who sold me the laptop got the matte/gloss options wrong! i was going to push and try to get it for free but couldnt be bothered in the end! £57 isnt bad i suppose! i hope it doesnt delay my order too long! i want my new toy!!!

findvikas, is there any possibility of dimming the lights on the m15x?
