 Alright this is a petition for dell to bring back the old Alienware boxing! My elder brother just received his M18x config for 3100 dollars (he lives in the UK) and the new box offered next to no protection! The M18x luckily came with a small scratch (thanks to its aluminum case or else it could have damaged the internals) and the box is very battered.

I my self was turned off and changed my mind about ordering an m18x r2, luckily for him he dosent care about dents/scratches and his system works fine but seriously dell you must atleast offer some protection for the premium we are paying.

Right now I might order from Xotic pc because of the protection option u can pay (the wooden box) but it is still insufficient that the mother company isnt even protecting 3000 dollar merchandise!

shame on you dell and anyone who agrees that they should return the old boxing please post :D

my m17x came flawless. I know the old boxes were better but you need to realize even the current AW boxes are better than 99% of what other companies send you. Id rather petition for something important rather than something that gets put away or thrown away never to be seen again once you get your laptop. The dent on your laptop is the cause of fedex/UPS and not the boxing.

I agree with op. In the recent unboxing vids I have watched, there was significantly less protection, and one guy's even came with a big hole in the box.

Some people are paying the equivalent of the cost of a decent used car. The least dell can do is armor the machine with an extra 80 cents worth of cardboard on the way out of the factory...

Yeah, all my boxes seem to me quite sturdy and all the packages with them came in perfect condition.

Ahmedadel, blame the courier company, not Dell. A package is supposed to be delivered with no single scratch on it. If the package is damaged on arrival, by no means accept it the way it is. You don't have to and the law allows you to refuse to sign for it. In such situation the messenger fills a damage protocol which you sign and the condition of the package is stated there and takes the damaged package back.

This should be no problem as, AFAIR, all value packages sent by Dell are insured.

You people need to know your rights or otherwise anybody will try to frak you in your *** at any occasion. This is how this world works.

yea I think that was more the shippers fault than anything else. I have shipped my machine back and forth to dell several times in just a regular cardboard box with those foam things as the only sort of protection. Always has come back without damage (knock on wood).

It seems they no longer come "in a box in a box". Now they are just come "in a box"...

ok this is not what i expected to hear guys, we are paying alot of money for this kind of technology and you disagree for the protection they used to offer ? i mean WHY did they stop offering it ? my m17x r2 came in the protective boxing and it is flawless with no sctratches what so ever, dell should know that damage can be caused to their laptop, they shuld atleast offer some kind of protection ! isnt it bad enough that they rip us off on the prices of the upgrades? atleast give us the stellar quality that we pay for ?

One of the reasons I am probably going to buy mine off Xotic PC. They have some very nice packaging options.

With all this chatter I'm now curious what the old boxes looked like. Can't agree or disagree without seeing the differences. I'm also curious where the petition is in this petition. It's strikingly absent from the thread.

This thread will make no difference and no matter what petition you make up that will have no effect on the executive VP. This is about bottom line dollars and creating shareholder value for dell. Enthusiasts complaining about their pretty lights and fancy video cards will not make them spend millions on packaging that could be going back to the company as profits. If you order from XOTIC and their fancy wooden box thinking it will be safe...guess how xotic receives the laptops from dell.....

That is why you get the need signature option. I didn't think that xoticpc had the crate option I thought they just placed the computer in a larger cardboard box surrounding the computer in some kind of foam. I know that OriginPC offers a crate.

You are right it is ORIGIN who has the crate option and they use their own in house laptops which are probably clevo or sager units... not sure

Xotic doesn't do wood crates, they do have an option for packing the laptop in a large cardboard box where it will be completely protected by expanding memory foam though.

I just received my m18x today unimpressed with the packing of the notebook the box was damaged with a hole poked through it and it was not taped shut plus the mouse pad is missing from the box very poor for a 4000.00 computer.

I am not sure if Xotic pc (which is a very reputable AW reseller) delivers to egypt, but if they do, you can buy a premium packaging option from them that will have the computer delivered in a large box surrounded in tough memory foam. I haven't heard of anyone receiving a damaged machine after picking that method.

Didn't see a mouse pad in my (new) box either... Couldn't care less about the mouse pad, but the manual would have been nice!
