I've had my m15x for about 8 months. The other day, I noticed that my power cord had a tear in it near the power brick. Upon further inspection, I could actually see the metal in the wire. Upon contacting CS, they informed me that it isn't covered under warranty because it is considered "misuse." My laptop has never leaved my house since I've owned it (except for when I shipped it for repair). When it is moved, it is carefully brought 40 feet away to the living room, and usually WITHOUT the power cord. I find it hard to believe that the damage is a direct result of me.

I listened to the horror stories, and still I went ahead and ordered from Alienware. I'm not going to lie, the flashy lights got me. But this is ridiculous. My screen was busted upon arrival (had to ship it back). If a screen can get busted during shipping from Alienware, doesn't it seem like the "misuse" may occur on their end? I'm using the earliest version of the BIOS because none of the others fully work. I've had audio popping, sleep/hibernate issues. It isn't worth it. I urge you all to think twice before dropping THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS on one of these systems. I just hope the next thing that goes isn't more expensive to replace than the power brick. And there will be a next time. I can feel it.

You can also repair it your self it's quite easy and safe. Or if you aren't comftorbal, just look on craigslist or ebay for a used one. My dog chewed my macbook's power cord, and apple sure in hell did not replace it. lol they asked how it happened i said it was corrosion, then they say teeth marks :D

those teeth marks always get ya!

Maybe I will try repairing it. If not, then any brick should work as long as it supplies the same voltage and current as mine, correct?

i think, if i remember right: (but not to be quoted for fact)

if you read the warranty information, it states all peripherals (i.e. the power brick) are covered under the manufacturer's warranty for that item.

you would need to make a claim against the maker of the power brick.

that said, i think AW could have at least entertained the idea of replacing the item before stating the item was used in a way it should not have been. shame.

it appears as if you may have a better leg to stand on then you or i thought.

call them back and have them validate the term and definition on misuse. a simple tear from the looks in the photo i would say does not constitute misuse.

as stated from the posting of Moo...as seen in quotes above, you have a 1 yr limited warranty for the adapter....

keep plugging, and be persistant, but polite at the same time...

roughman, you should PM AW-James. I just sent a PM to AW James and followed up with Roswell Kevin, and the issue is going to be resolved. Thanks to all for your input, and thank you AW.
