BROKEN FAN PROFILES FOR THE NEW ALIENWARE 17 AND 18 :

Now it is almost 15 months since the new Alienware 17 was released for sale. They have failed to fix the fan profiles correctly on the new (Alienware 17 and 18). How long should we wait for Dell fix this problem? It's absolutely ridiculous that the fan on the CPU does not start until several seconds after it reaches 60-67 degrees Celsius. Cpu fan maybe start when the temperature has dropped to 40-45 degrees :-( It's too late to starting of the fans. It's completely idiotic. When you load a new bios you hear that fans have a much higher speed than the machine typically have in work. Why Dell not fix this, when we know these fans can go on higher speed. This problem have Alienware 18 as well. Something must be done. If not Alienware lose a lot of customers. And it is not certain they come back to buy a new model of Alienware gaming laptop. Old customers will build a desktop gaming PC, instead of buying a crippled laptop gaming PC. (crippled bios in the new Alienware laptop) This is a great shame of Alienware's technicians

This I have discussed in Alien Arena's forum. They claim they have not heard anything about this issue.

I have to say the fan profile in my machine are perfect after A10 BIOS and repasting ,

GPU fan always OFF thanks to Optimus and CPU fan Around 2000RPM no loud noise what so ever .

I just feel bad that they didnt use the same fan as the GPU

Honestly I think it affects the extreme edition CPU's more. Mine will kick in when I am pushing the system and remain on most of the time but it does have to get above average before it triggers the fan to throttle up. If I think back to when I first got the machine the fan used to run ALL the time and it was actually quite annoying compared to how silent my R4 was so in at least some way I appreciate the changes they have been making. I guess I understand when people prefer the fans to kick in earlier, if I stress the system it takes a few seconds with the temps climbing before the fans kick in and wrangle it back down where it should be but it happens instantly when the fans do throttle up. Not sure how this is affecting those with the 4930 series, I know they were having a lot of issues at the beginning but I don't see as many threads about the issue anymore. I don't seem to have the problem of the fans kicking in and out all the time while under load but I don't have a 4930 series so maybe that makes a big difference.

Now that I have manual fan controls for the Alienware 18, I really don't care whether the stock fan profiles are any good. They don't need to be... I can just do things my way now, which is actually my personal preference.

Still, I think that the cpu fan should start up faster with increased temperature, not to start several seconds later when the temperature has already gone down. This is pretty stupid fan control Dell has made. Why can't the cpu and gpu fans have the opportunity to have the same fan speed at max, as they do when we flashing a new bios? The machine is not quieter when the fan should start up in one higher speed than necessary. It should not be such that you must need to adjust the fan manually, before you use your PC for some heavier work. :mad2:

Or they can just make their own fan control software like pretty much every other company has.

It's a problem with many possible solutions. They just need to pick one and do it. The best solution, for us as users, would be to just use custom fan control software as Mr. Fox does.

I wish there were more fan speed options. 0, 1700, 3500 are not great choices.

My recommendation is to share that thought at Ideastorm.com, we've already escalated the case internally and we received the newest BIOS' but if those aren't working either then you may use that place to get the thoughts to our engineers.
