Greetings every1. As the topic says, 1 of the plastic part of my hinge is cracked.

When I received my M17x back in august 2009, i noticed that there was a little swelling and small scratch there, but because I was busy preparing to study abroad on september and that swelling didn't cause much trouble, I just ignored it. So after few times travelling with it, the plastic finally cracked. And due to that crack, my lid is slightly deviated to the right as shown in the last picture. I've just talked to a rep from dell, n he refused to replace that plastic part for me. He said that he has talked to his senior technician n wadever person, the only option for me to get it fixed is to buy a whole new LCD panel from them, which will cost me 600 pound (total-ripoff). He said I should have called them the moment I notice the abnormality, and it has been 7 months since I got it so he cannot do anything about it. As I mentioned above I was kinda busy preparing for my studies, and also when I got to Ireland I tried to call them as soon as I have free time, but due the the warranty problem I haf to wait for a month or 2 to get it done (don't quite remember, it is a long story). Now I'm having my ester break so thats the only time where I can afford to spend hours on the frustrating phone call, and I feel that im getting walled off. Can any1 familiar to this model tell me that isit that I have to replace the whole lcd to fix it? or is it simply a seperated plastic where I can just get it and change that particular part? And also do you guys think that I have a chance to get any1 from dell to fix it? or isit not a problem at all and I should stop complaining?

    Any help is appreciated. thx

People don't start losing warranty until June.

The tech was correct about one thing - you really should have contacted support as soon as you noticed it. This should still be covered if the unit is in-warranty. I suggest calling back again to discuss the problem with a different rep.

Ultimately, if you are still not able to resolve it - see this:

I'm having 3-year Premier Service with 3-year CompleteCover. I've repeatedly told that guy that it should b replace whether I called earlier or later. From what I remember, the sales rep told me that my warranty covers everything and I should get replacement for every single part that is broken for free. Anyway that guy just walled me off, he wasn't unfriendly or mean so I kinda trusted him. Anyway as I've said I was busy during the 1st month i got the laptop and at that point it was just a scratched swell and doesnt cause me any trouble, who wants to let the technician to touch their new laptop.... ><. Then when I wanted to get it fixed, the technicians in UK again walled me because 'I dont haf warranty in UK', while my invoice clearly states that I haf international warranty. I'll try to call back tomorrow and hopefully I can get someone who is willing to help. anyway BatBoy, how can I escalate it without a case no.? since they refuse to do anything in the 1st place.

Call again don't hesitate. You're covered by warranty and they should fix it.
Besides, even if you called them 5 months ago, they'd probably still have to replace the lid.
