Would it be better to order from a reseller like XoticPC or directly from Dell?

I know you can get discounts from Dell, but I have had good experience and customer supports with resellers.

I was actually able to save money going through Dell because I ordered during these sales, and got additional discounts speaking with someone on the phone. I'd say go through Dell.

I was skeptical at first as well, but Dell treated me well - I'm happy.

I went through Dell. The only draw back for me by going through Dell was the taxes. But even with taxes included, my final bill was still over $400 off of what the config would be on the site. i have no regrets and love the laptop.

The main reason to go through resellers is for the additional choices and customization. If you are fine with dells options, or you want to do mods/add other stuff such as ram and SSD's and doing overclocking yourself. Then buy from dell.
If you don't want to open your laptop up, but you want special SSD's, ram, skins, and other stuff, the reseller is the way to go. It may also be cheaper to go with a reseller if you are a bad negotiator (no sales tax with resellers, and there is a 3% discount with most).

On reseller websites I'm seeing rush build options that allow for them to build and ship in 1-4 business days, while Dell looks like 20 days for building, and another week or so for shipping.

Is it really 1-4 business days after my order on a reseller that I can get the laptop?

Sure, if they have your build in stock. If not, you'll have to wait for Alienware and the Reseller, which will probably be a month.

I was on the fence with this as well, but in the end I went with Alienware. You just have to call.

In my personal opinion I would rather going straight to DELL. Resellers offer good options but it's never the same. :p

I checked in with BTOTech, and they said that they keep physical stock and do the assembly of the M17xs by themselves, so they only take less than a week for assembly.

I really like that fast time, but does that mean the laptop itself is a lower quality or warranty doesn't work right? (although it says "Dell Global Warranty")

Resellers are not allowed to actually give their opinion or try to persuade people to go one way or the other *looks at Porras*.

However assume your support will be coming from the company you order it, decide if that is a plus or a negative in your opinion. Base shells will be identical and the quality of components will be the same for instance if the same wireless card is used.
