I work out of town at least 5 months out the year, so therefor I want to get me alienware rig for both gaming and entertainment. I will not be lugging this huge thing around. I am looking towards the QHD (2560x1440) 120Hz panel because I like first person shooters. Do youll believe there is a big difference in Intel® Core™ i7-6820HK and the Intel® Core™ i7-6700HQ processors. This rig will be mainly for gaming and I am keeping it anywhere between 2 to 3 years. I might try some photoshop as well. I am opting for the 1070 graphic card. One last thing, how can I get the best price on this beast. I really don't want to spend more then 2k. Thanks in advanced.

With 2-3 years keeping I recommend spending more to upgrade 6820HK. 6700HQ is already outclassed even by today's standards.

Also can look at the 1080 for more power in the future.

Buy it around Christmas. Most likely will have heavy discounts + coupons.

The 6700hq being outclassed is some sort of urban myth right now although it has some grounds. The 5700hq can turbo higher for better short term performance, although it cannot sustain it for long. The 6700hq on the other hand can maintain its clocks for a sustained period meaning for prolonged workloads the 6700hq is actually superior.

if we are to compare things like the 4930mx or other top of the line for their day cpu's it no longer is an apples to apples comparison, and the 6820hk must be used to compare and the 6820hk is actually quite comparable to the 4930mx, and almost around the 6700K for gaming needs

(i know you know this @Mobius 1 but im just saying/clarifying for others who may be passing by reading this forum and don't know about this information)

4700mq can hold 3.4 indefinitely, that's an even older chip

Thats very true, however in the wider scale, laptops with a 4700mq do not have pascal gpu's which itself is a big point of why to buy some laptops. I think for now, the most relevant comparisons will be between skylake and kabylake and maybe broadwell in some cases.

If you're willing to do it, an AW17R1 (Ranger) can use a 1070 MXM from @woodzstack

Thats great!, if you mind me asking how is the performance of an aw17r1 with the 1070? the new gen laptops with pascal all natively have four phase power systems etc to handle the power load and all that to also maintain overclocks.

Is the aw17r1 stable/rival of the new laptops such as the aw17r4 and gt73?

Thanks for the mention. Keep in mind you would have to modify your chassis chop shop style, and need a modified driver and a 120hz panel...
