    Hey guys

I'm about to buy a M15x, Its the only laptop that matches my traveling requirements mixed with gaming thus far.

What I can't work out is to get XP? or Vista? For it

I've read and seen framerate specs showing Vista's heavy load certainly eats up 5-15% framerates in most games compared to XP. But then I saw Vista is the only option for Direct x10 its not included in XP and it has ALOT of high end graphics advantages over XP.

Can I order Vista and if I don't like Vista, Install a unused desktop copy of XP I have lieing around instead?

I know these laptops are a pain to install with special drivers sometimes when your doing a install thats not the offical OS install disk, will it be easy or a nightmare you think?

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers

    Matthew

welcome sambuka, First off if you order your m15x from alien order with Vista. Its just way better for this machine. Then what you should do is setup a dual boot. Thats what I had to do cause I had some apps that wouldn't run in Vista. Now AW has all the XP drivers that you need on their website so getting drivers won't be a problem at all. If you do run into any issue just let us know we'll be glad to help.

Taco, i've heard dual boot been thrown around alot but ive never understood.

I've also ordered an m15x with vista and i also have an unused XP i got with my computer that i've never used.

But how do you dual boot? Do you just put the XP disk in, make the laptop to boot the CD before the computer then let XP install?
Then at the login section ( if more than one user ) it asks you if you want to use XP or vista?

Dual boot is when you have 2 operating systems on your machine by making different partitions on your hardrive or having 2 hardrives. What happens is you turn on your machine and after the bios screen pops up then it will ask you which OS you want to go into. At one time I was working on a guide for people that wanted to do it but I got kinda thrown off by my cpu overheating. I guess I should continue to write it.

So your basicly splitting your harddrive into two ( with one ). Would that give half the harddrive capacity to each OS? And is it hard to do this?

well no you can decide how much you want to use for each one. It isn't very difficult if you know what your doing but like I said if anyone is interested I'll spend some time and make a guide.

Ok thanks for the help guys, i'll order it tonight with Vista, and if I have any issues i'll reformat and install XP as dual boot.

Nirvana yeah I read that some people were trying to hack direct x 10 to work on XP, did you get yours to work 100% stable or does crash or have issues with some games?
