is there a big difference? XoticPC offers diamond pasting and other customizing so I'm wondering if it matters where I get it?

If you're going to get an alienware, i'd get it straight from dell, but that's just me. That makes sure you don't have to mess with warranty problems. Not sure how XoticPC handles that.

I would get it from xoticpc. Purley because you can customize what SSDs and RAM, etc. you get. Dell's default SSDs kinda of suck since they use TLC Nanad and don't take advantage of the M2 port.

I'd buy it straight from Dell.

    1) You can haggle and get some really good discounts from Dell. In addition, you can often find a coupon for 5%-10% off, which you can definitely combine with any discount you managed to negotiate. You can additionally combine this with an EPP/MPP discount (lots of companies and universities have a 2% discount). Dell also has their Advantage program, which gives you a 5% cash back coupon (which can only be used at Dell). You can use this coupon to buy a case, for example (which you'd probably have to buy anyway). So overall, you can get your Alienware from Dell for much cheaper.

    2) You can do your own after-market upgrades. Just buy the base AW, then buy your SSD/RAM afterwards.

    3) Dell/Alienware has the best warranty/support out there. I'm not saying XoticPC is bad, but Dell gives you next business day on site service and repairs. I would assume XoticPC simply refers you to Dell for warranty and repairs.

If you were buying an ASUS or Clevo, or even MSI, I'd say go with XoticPC, as the customization options are good, and you typically won't find huge price variations on these laptops elsewhere (barring an ASUS being on sale on Amazon or Newegg).

But for an Alienware? If you're any good at haggling and have a bit of patience, you can snatch a really good deal from Dell directly.

Go with Dell. Their warranty is the best in the business.
