Just wanted to know what peoples opinions were regarding buying a new machine. I've had my money for a new laptop waiting since august on this October 900 series release so now I'm limbo. Do I just wait for the refresh now, and when is this likely to happen.

I find it sad that Alienware have hired people like yourself, pay them money to offer customer service for Alienware owners or people who are interested, but you and your fellow Alienware employees do absolutely nothing to answer or help us out in this Maxwell time.
I am aware that you have NDA or something that don't allow you to help, but if Alienware is true to their brand and reputation, you go get approval to speak about the future products. Alienware ow us that much
Its 3 weeks since Nvidia announced 900M Maxwell GPUs for notebooks and Dell have been dead silent about anything regarding Maxwell. This despite pretty much every other company offering and selling new notebooks with 900M GPUs, while Alienware run promotions on crappy M290X GPUs and outdated 800M GPUs.
You truly seem to not care about your fan base at all. Absolutely patheticmatolati likes this. -

I have no doubt a refresh with the 900-series is coming, the questions are:
1) Will the AW 14 be dropped and a new 15 coming ?
2) Will the chassis' designs be tweaked to thinner designs necessitating soldered CPUs
3) Will the 18 survive?
I'd like to at least hear that some other announcement is going to be made at some point.GTO_PAO11 likes this. -

I'm happy this is the way my post is going, i stayed up last night buzzing to purchase my first AW laptop, thinking i'll be getting a nice 17 with a 970m maybe 980m depending on price, with the full warranty and all that shizz, £3k budget sitting waiting on them.....then as people have mentioned nice laser show then, oh look a 13, thats cool i5U
maybe there will be i7s, but no just that amp.....I'm properly gutted.... the money is burning a hole in my pocket tbh and a nice new tv ps4 and a decent £1k laptop is looming as a better way to spend my money right now.... Come on Alienware! My friend has a Razor and i want to show him what a real gaming laptop is! ...

CloudFire has asked me privately for the same information and unfortunately I had to say the same, we won't be able to tell until the official announcement is done. IMHO, if the new Area 51 was already released with the 900 series I would expect that if there is a refresh soon, they'll have those. We are always on top of the newest technology but the certification process (for existing platforms) and manufacturing process (for upcoming ones) aren't simple. The new 13" laptop was released when nobody was expecting, I'm sure that if anything else will come in the future, it'll be just like that! Stay tuned through our main channels (Facebook and Twitter), if an announcement is done... That's the first place where it'll appear.tinker_xp likes this. -
Hey Porras - understand we are not disappointed with you, just the fact that there was just nothing said... frankly, you saying that refreshes with 900-series are forthcoming is more real information than the entire broadcast last night outside (eGPU not withstanding). It's not the wait that people are peeved with, it's just the lack of information. I have been a Dellienware fan since 2009, but for the first time I am seriously considering straying off the ranch given the mediocrity of the AW 13 CPU/GPU pairing and lack of information. As a truly down-level, mobile system vs. an AW 14 (or 15) it would make sense, but if it is 13/17/18, it makes no sense; we need something to point where things are headed. Going into a holiday season a lot of potential AW sales are going to be missed unless some serious announcement happens in the next week or two.

I agree with everything other customers have stated, I really am ok (not pleased to) wait until like feb to get my hands on a machine that is absolutely everything I want it to be, what kills me is that Alienware is acting like there has not been any announcement of new GPUs in the past weeks, they just simply ignore it and move on like nothing happened. That SUCKS.
All we are asking is something to hope for, you know, we want to KNOW that things are being done and that it will come eventually, so we have a time frame to wait. Keeping us in the dark is just the perfect way to let other companies who care a little more about their customers to come with a product that may not be 100% what we wished for, but it's definitely better than last gen hardware. -

Buying my first Alien. Do I just wait for refresh, since I don't want a year old gpu for ££££s
