    CD burner issues

    Ok so yesterday I ripped about ten cds to my new aw and now today I try to rip some more and nothing happens wmp tells me it needs a cd drive!

    Try pulling out the Hotswap dvdrw drive. and Put it back in.

    Wil do. Also shouldn't alienware have done the vista updates on my machine vista just notified me of 15 updates I need to do (that could have been done at aw)

    What I would do is install the windows updates. Then check with Alienware tech support and make sure everything Current for Drivers. If you know how to check drivers and so on. Check on Myhive in Alienware website.

    The OEM uses whatever copies of the OS they have in their stock, not all of which will have the latest updates. I doubt very much whether one of their assembly/installation procedures includes logging onto Windows Update to download the latest updates. That's true of most any OEM (Dell, HP, Sager, whoever), not just Alienware. I can't remember ever getting a computer that didn't start downloading updates the moment it logged onto the net.
