I just OC my cpu with the THE MOO guide, i got now the cpu to 3,1 ghz the problem ys when i start the OCCT or CPUz i see the speed variating from 3,1 to 2 all the time, stay on 2 ghz and then go bak to 3, i chek the power management but all its OK the cpu minimun and maximun state is 100% and i dont know is this is normal or a bug, i have the A2 bios and is a R1 m17x

I think it's an indication you are on the edge of your CPU's ability, i.e. it's throttling from high to low speed. Mine was doing the same and gave me a BSOD after running over 14 hrs w/o issues, I dropped it back 20 on the FSB in BIOS and it's been as slick as can be for 28 hrs w/o the up...down...up....down changes you are speaking of. Another thought is if you are not running much for apps the CPU may be just cycling, if you are not experiencing any other issues, BSOD's or the like I would just monitor your temps and see how it goes.

I'd say its Intel's speed step, When its idle it drops the multipier thus dropping the clock speed. Nothing to worry about ^_^

If it Works under load @ 3.10Ghz throughout OCCT for an hour etc, You should be good and clear of BSODs, However doesn't mean it won't happen occasionally, If it happens frequently drop the FSB back slightly and retest until you are happy, Aslong as you haven't volt modded anything you shouldn't break anything (provided the temperature doesn't go silly and above 85ish)

That should be fine then, OCCT is not really true life anyway, Your processor will never be stressed that much in real use.

What is the Moo Guide? I want to know where this is so I can overclock my M17x-R2 920xm processor like you did. I would love to have all 4 cores running at 3.1GHz at the same time all the time.

I don't think that's possible becasue when and if it dropped to using the single core or even dual cores the clock speed would raise and casue problems.
For example the multipliers of the 920XM are 2/2/8/9 so at default it can go to 2266Mhz/2266Mhz/3064Mhz/3197Mhz if you increased the clock for example to 166Mhz then the TurboBoost speeds would be 2332Mhz/2332Mhz/3328Mhz/3494Mhz which would take more power/generate more heat.

To get 3.1Ghz it would have to be 550Mhz meaning the TurboBoost speeds would be 3100Mhz/3100Mhz/6400Mhz/6950Mhz, The latter being a bit silly. :p

If you can turn turbo boost off then it's feasible.

I May be wrong someone correct me if i am.

P.S - I Think he has an R1 with a QX9300 and meant this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=408230, Unless of course I'm missing something then by all means disregard what i said. :D
