    Does anyone have info on CPU benchmark between the new CPU choices for Alienware?

    ie:
    * Intel® CoreTM i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    * Intel® CoreTM i7 820QM 1.73GHz(3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    * Intel® CoreTM i7 920XM 2.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
    * Intel® CoreTM i7 620M 2.66GHz (3.33GHz Turbo Mode, 4MB Cache)
    * Intel® CoreTM i5 540M 2.53GHz (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 3MB Cache)
    * Intel® CoreTM i5 430M 2.26GHz (2.53GHz Turbo Mode, 3MB Cache)
    * Intel® CoreTM i3 330M 2.13GHz (3MB Cache)

    The new CPUs have higher frequency at lower cache; dont know if that will affect much in performance.

    I would appreciate if you can post a website that carry regular CPU benchmark; I use www.cpubenchmark.net...

    All new Cpus are only dual cores. Also a big cache increases the chance of a chache hit. A cache hit is good for you :)

    Most applications dont access memmory randomly but rather in a consistent fashion. If you dont have to go to the Main memmory but get the data from the cache you might get the data back about 10 times faster. So the answer is really rubish: it depends on the application.

    If the application is just some pi number calculating, you might not see a difference at all. In regular apps, you probably will get a performance difference.

    I see we have a computer engineer in our midst ;)

    The models with a Q are the quad cores. More cache as mentioned is always a plus - and Intel implements cache very well compared to AMD

    For benchmarks, expect scores for CPU from 3DMark06 and Vantage from the many users who have these ordered

    Also, with hyperthreading enabled would that make it a virtual 8 cored systesm?
    I think I heard this somewhere before.

    Yes, the 720,820,920 are all 4 cores/8 threads

    The i5's and i7 6xx series are 2 cores/4 threads

    i3 is 2 cores/2 threads

    So basically, we who bought Alienwares with i7 720,820,920 CPUs are not getting the low end of the deal with the availability of new CPUs?

    Thanks!
