Just want to know if your system shipped with a fan in the secondary GPU slot....
-
-
Did this pop into your head because of the hard disk bracket issue?
-
From the User manual i poked through didnt it just show that fake card there in the secondary slot with nothing attached to it ?.
-
Yeah there is a blank inserted where the GPU would be, but the fan is not part of the GPU (it is in the chassis seperately).
As far as the HDD bracket reference, no I wasn't thinking of that. lol
I just wanted to know because it is seperate from the card.... -

Why, are you thinking of re-ordering when you get back from Florida with a single GPU and a screen upgrade to 1920x1200 this time??
PS, I would imagine it doesn't, but I guess I'll find out when I get mine, or if someone confirms this for us first. -
Yeah, I'm thinking about getting a little crafty this time
I want to order the SLI 280's and sell one of them so I'll end up paying anout $100 for a single 280
Please let me know when you get yours.. Thanks! -

No problem, will do. -
I'd be curious to see if the bridge cable is there, or if you need to order that as well.

I am going to say a big, fat NO to the cable being there... lol
-
yea ugh no .... they will not ship out any parts that are not necessary

So that means that the SLI chipsets for laptops also require a cable? Sorry for my ignorance but i only knew of the 3870's from the W840DI needing these (its my first multi-gpu notebook). I have seen the the W90 doesn't need it for the 4870's and had not heard of the Nvidia chips needing one.
Purely speculation, but you will definitely NOT get a cooler unless there is a card in the slot. There are $$ that dell wont want to part with unless paid for. That being said, are the coolers the same design in this model for each GPU like they are for the Clevo 900 series models? -
The W90 has a crossfire cable for sure (i owned one) and i have never seen a mutigpu machine that did not require one.
-
Yes, there is an SLI cable that extends from the primary card all the way across the chassis to the secondary GPU.

Oh ok, thanks for the replies. Now I am informed.
-
yea the M17x requires a cable
see here
for your enjoyment

Nice find on the Picture Moo. Although that picture is very different from the pictures i have seen before for W90 with the 2 GPU's side by side as shown here.
-
Moos pic is not of a W90... It's an M17x

I see, is what I thought. And that confirms what I thought, they are beautiful inside and out. It is a shame i am already in so deep with my Whitebook haha (and a "poor" college student).

And does such a layout keep your keyboard nice and toasty?
Also, to anyone who has taken one apart and thoroughly investigated it, any thoughts on who the ODM is for the m17x? is it also Flextronics/Arima? -
Supposedly it is Flex....
The keyboard stays cool even during gaming. -
There's still a magnesium cover in between the GPUs and the keyboard.

Well this machine just keeps sounding better and better. I gotta say that despite putting much fewer models out, Flex is getting some quality product out there to compete with Clevo.
Calling any M17x owner's w/ a single GPU...
