I just reveived my new M17x to replace my M1730. The problem is I wanted a blu-ray player but since the computer was a replacement, I couldn't add it when it was being built. Can I swap out the drive with a blu-ray drive? I don't need to burn blu-ray, I just need to play it. What drive should I get and how much should it cost?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dude I have a question. Are you just changing PC or were you having massive issues with your m1730?

Besides that: Well I know exactly what you want cause I am wanting to do the same thing haha. You can add a Blu-Ray Drive but you would have to send it back into Dell in order to have them install it.
I have been looking for a slot load Blu-ray drive on the internet for a while now and can't seem to find one(for the M17x that is). But you can call dell as I have and they will give you the information such as prices and such

Here is there Link for Dells Order Support Line:

    http://support.dell.com/support/top...rt/dellcare/byphone_ord?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

They should be able to help you find prices and answer any questions you have.

Also here is a link for an External Blu-ray Drive for sale on Ebay:

You can order it and install it yourself, just has to be a Slot Load Mini SATA Slot load Blu Ray drive - any brand will work. The installation will be a pain though, have to take most of the machine apart to get to it.

Well actually it was a replacement for my M1710... Dell was supposed to send the Alienware M17x but shipped the M1730 instead. Luckily Dell agreed to exchange the M1730 for the M17x. Yes, I was having a lot of issues with the M1710, they basicly replaced everything and it was still overheating to the point it of going through GPU's on a weekly basis.

Anyone have any part numbers for the bluray drive?

What brand and model number bluray player does Dell use for the M17x?

    What about the bluray burner?
