So a 3 days ago my new Alienware M11x came, I had heard that without any added software it would be able to run World of Warcraft on AT LEAST "good" quality settings. I find myself having to play on "poor" quality and with this I average about 15 fps. This is not an internet connection problem. So.. can I get a refund? I believe it cost $1018.

As long as you are within your return window you can return it minus a restocking fee.
-
Depending on where you are located the return policy in Canada is 30 days and the US is 21 days, I am not sure about some of the other countries.

Make sure you have your graphics settings is set on the Nvidia not the Intel chip. I run WOW on Ultra no problems with my M11X. Your M11X comes with two video cards, one for browsing the web (Intel) and one for playing Games (Nvidia). You can switch cards by pressing ftn and F6 I think, it says GFX on the key. I ran into the same frustration, I thought my lappy was crappy until I figured this out.
You can tell if your in the Nvidia setting by seeing a Nvidia logo on the lower right part of your tool bar, if your in Intel, the Icon looks like a blue rectangle thingy. -
Speedy Gonzalez Xtreme Notebook Speeder!
yes you do , all you have to do is call dell and told them you unhappy with your purchase
-
The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
I am pretty sure you are not playing on the nVidia chip.
-
Thanks for the replies! Good to know I can get my money back. Flynnaz, trying that right now.
edit:Whats this ftn key you're talking about >.< -

fn should be somewhere near on the last row near the left at the bottom of the keyboard.
-
You're trying to play that game with the Intel chip, I can almost guarantee. The M11x should be very capable of achieving acceptable frame rates.
Hit the FN key (lower left side of keyboard) while you are also pressing the F6 key. This will turn on the NVIDIA card. You can see a little green swoosh mark in your system tray when Intel is enabled, two of the little green swooshes when NVIDIA is enabled. You want NVIDIA for gaming. -
"FTN" is your function key, you press it and hold it down while pressing one of the top function buttons
-
Ok, so I press FN and F6, and it brings up a screen saying close these programs and click Increased performance : mcagent.exe (Process ID:3204) No idea what this is so I click the "How to close programs" highlighted lettering. It brings me to "How do I change the default Hybrid Graphics settings in the Windows Power Plan", some guide. I follow the steps having no idea what I'm doing throughout
I do everything it says but when I look, the Intel icon is still there -
you can just press ctrl alt delete
then go to start task manager and end the process there and the m11x will automatically switch for u. -
let's do it fresh, so you'll get an idea how switchable graphics work.
1.restart m11x
2.press F2 to enter bio setting.
3.select CPU OVERCLOCK to ENABLE
4.save and exit.
5.once you log into windows, initiate nvidia chip by press FN+F6.
6.now start your game and enjoy -
Pressing F2 does nothing for me :l
-
Yeah it works very fluid on Ultra actually on most WoW raids. Except few where there are many particles around (e.g. Mimiron 25 hard mode).
-
you press f2 as soon as you see you alienhead when you restart the pc.
-
ey! It worked! Thanks everyone! runs Ultra smoothly with 30-40 fps
-
The idea is that you switch manually to Integrated Graphics that consumes less power but provides very good battery life when you want extended battery and switch go nVidia GeForce when you want performance.
BTW, I don't get what CPU Overclock has to do with graphic card. -
I would have to agree, McAfee stinks anyways, I have not tried MSE, I'll wait until my Norton expires ( I know there are Norton haters too, I have had 0 problems, although I do not go on Gambling or bad aduit sites either
). The CPU overclock option is a good thing to enable while your in bios, it makes sense too me
-
Say what you will, but I find 15-20 FPS on an Intel integrated graphics setting to be impressive
.
-
WoW doesn't utilize quad core processors or dual GPU's does it?
-
It certainly works way more fluid (but with flickering) when Crossfire is enabled.
-
Well as long as the flickering is present then no crossfire for me... I am a big wow fan
-
-
Yes, WoW utilizes multi-core and multi-gpu setups. However, because of the terrible optimization of such an old engine, it does not scale all that well with XF/SLi.
Can I get a refund?
