85-90C is still ok for the GPU, as long as it doesn't go over that or stay at that range for very long. And that requires dust cleaning, and possibly a notebook cooler for safety...
For the CPU is a different story, max thermal temp for most T and X series for laptops are ~105C, but a safe limit would be under 80C...

Just got a call from AW Tech Support and, my GPU had a problem with something to do with thermal profile. So, they are putting a new GPU on.
They are also going to substitute my case by a new one (hope it is in fact a new case). So, regarding CS, I can't really complain about anything. They have been helpful and pleasant to deal at all times. What's really bad is that I have to resort to them 3 weeks after owning my M15x. Oh well...

So, regarding the GPU, I'm just wondering if this is what's behind those lids breaking. Maybe there are defective GPUs out there that warm to 100C (on Bios X32RC1) and will lead to the lid breaking due to thermal stress.

I can understand how people live can make the differnce In temps and such. Also if the person is a slob. Or Who think laptops should be just that for the lap or fabric like Beds or pellows.

You can take a pet person. Who has cats and dogs and have the laptop overheating pet hair.. I have a pet but it a Lizard Tokey gecko.

Dusty areas. That can also mess up the laptop. When we had the fires in Central california That lasted 30 days. I took apart 3 laptops due to the ash in the area. The fire was 2 Miles away from us and you can feel the heat. Before they put it out.

Areas like Texas. Where it feels like to going to rain almost every day. It could be 80f but humidty will make it feel like 110f I heard is Florda worse.

What I know CPUs can go up to 100c before shutting down so 85 to 90c would be ok. GPU I am unsure of.

Bumping up... Can new owners perform these tests please? I know lots of you do, but the more the merrier. We need to have a good idea of what's happening with the 8800GTX in the M15x.
Thank you very much for everyone's help.

I am bumping this thread again to ask all users to test their GPUs as suggested in post number 1.
Groove, that just got his new M15x to substitue another M15x that was sent back, states there are no improvements on quality or any solution for the "problems" people have reported on the M15x (he is enjoying is laptop still).

He also shows that his GPU hits the amazingly high temperature of 102ºC while playing Crysis.

For the sake of everyone's laptop's health, I would strongly recommend going over the 1st post and taking some time to test your GPU's temperature profile. It will really save you tears further down the road.

    Take care,
    M.

Also, I may have a solution to lowering the temps by reflashing the vbios on the gpu for those of you that want to take the risk. I am seeing encouraging results by doing this so far but have NOT tested it thoroughly. See my other posts on the subject. 102C in Crysis has been lowered to 96C.

Maybe AW should listen to you and Taco on fixing the GPU and CPU problems respectively.
Anyway... Keep us posted and make more tests (including performance tests).
    Good luck.

To the rest of you... Do think about testing your GPU.

    Take care all,
    M.

ATITool max temp lowered from 104+C to 98-99C. Notice that the first time I did the 104C stress, I only ran ATITool for 9 mins so I might have gotten it higher. I ran the new stress test for 15 mins. That's a 5-6C decrease in temperatures with a very mild lowering of gpu voltage on the reflashed bios. I am VERY pleased with the results so far. NO ERRORS.

New 3dmark96 Score (for stability testing, not increased scores) Perfectly Stable with no errors.

Old score was 9188 (no screenshot). I'm not sure why m new score was so much higher. It's possible that I wasn't using the new beta drivers with the first score but I'm not sure. Either way the test had no errors and no anomalies.

    So guys ...

I just played crysis nearly 3 hours ... I got the temp. from NVLauncher which one is included in nTune!

    Download crysis.log

And yes, it shows me the correct temp!

BUT GUYS ... PLEASE THINK ABOUT, MY 8800M GTX is nearly 20% OVERCLOCKED

The temp without OC is around 10° degrees lower!
